Arms sale to Pak justified as India buys from US: Chinese official - China - World - The Times of India

God ~ Times of India reported it , oh I see ppl fainting left and right

Bashir, who met Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie on Friday, said Pakistan was keen on buying bigger ships and more JF-17 fighter planes from China apart from the submarines. Pakistan will buy more weapons including missiles from China in future, he said.

"The F22P frigate is about 3,000 tons, and now we are talking about 4,000-ton ships. These are very big projects and we think the cooperation is important for both countries, especially Pakistan," he said.

Pakistan booked four F22P frigates from China in 2005 and the first one began sea trials last year. Islamabad followed it up with another order of four more ships of same kind in 2007, the Chinese media said.

Azad PAkistan
We ave an on going thread on Pak Navy, where this article has been posted. There has been debate on this as well and the consensus is tat it might be 054As that we may end up buying or a variant of the two.
A new thread will contribute little to this debate.
MODS!!! Please merge this thread with the relevant pak Navy one!!

Well I think , having a thread about frigates is more vital vs 4 small tiny patrol boats that were given as gift which are more like fishing boats - perhaps we need to give independent focus on

F-22 Frigates (the 4 new ones which should arrive by 2013-2014)

.
Guys these are old news. Bring the forum something new.

.
Does it mean we would end up with 8 F-22's and 4 Type 54's ?

.
Well read carefully it says there were 2 contracts signed

1) Was signed 2005 (which we are recieving the good for now)
2) Was signed 2007 (4 of which we have not yet recieved any)

----

The Type 054A frigates are a complete new deal 3-4 ships under that modernization program to induct , bigger larger ships (Meeting were done just this past december)
see other post

(This of course is on top of the 6 Oliver Perry Class applied via USA)
(This of course is on top of 3 UK destroyers pakistan applied for which were retiring around 2009)

I am trying to verify if pakistan had any luck with the British Destroyers , which is news from 2009 posted in different thread - which if the deal closed , could be a considerable gain for Pakistan Navy's minimum defences

Correction ~
8 f22p (TOT so we could continue to build few more)
4 054a (Advance air defence support)
1 (4-5 awaiting approval from US, if they approve our request then yes 5-6)
3 (unconfirmed status), we really need 3 urgently as we have no destroyers

. .
8 - (f-22 p )
4- ( 054a)
6- (Oliver perry class)

That's where my understanding is the british order was lost if thats wat you guys are talking about .

.
8 - (f-22 p )
4- ( 054a)
6- (Oliver perry class)
4 - Turkish Stealth Corvette
4 - 214U Subs

That is a very healthy moderanization effort , on part of Pakistani Navy, now it looks worthy of a naval force of a country

3- Destroyers that Pakistan was negotiating with British would have been great addition as we severely lack a big Ship - with serious
air defence capabilities

F22P
Pakistan had been negotiating with China for the supply of 4 frigates since the late 1990s. The contract was signed on 4 April 2006 with the conclusion of negotiations for financing and technology transfer. The first ship was originally planned to be delivered in 2008 but this was delayed to 2009, with the remaining three ships planned to be delivered by 2013. The first three are being built at the Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, China, while the last is under construction in Pakistan by Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW).
According to one Chinese source Pakistan ordered four more F-22P frigates in 2007, although this has not been confirmed

Four additional F22p from china is a) single source, b) unconfirmed and c) at odds with the fact that the fourth ship of the initial batch will be built in Pakistan (why order more from china when you can build at home?).

054A

It is reported:
Jane's Defence Weekly has reported that Pakistan Navy is considering acquiring four Type 054 Class FFG frigates. The Type 054 frigates will [would] significantly boost Pakistan's Naval power as for the first time its naval task force can operate under an area air defense umbrella.

While in actuality:
According to Janes’ IDEAS2004 interview with former Pakistan Navy Chief ex-Admiral Karimullah at least four additional new-built frigates will be acquired by the navy. The new frigate will be larger and superior to the F-22P; it will likely have a better air defence system and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability; and use more advanced sensors, radar and electronics. Kanwa recently reported that the Pakistan Navy has shown recent interest in the Chinese Type 054A frigate.
Pakistan gets China F-22P Frigates & Karachi Shipyard upgrade - Pakistan - Zimbio

And that could just as well be 4 improved F22P locally built. Futher, Kanwa is not exactly the most reputable, reliable or accurate source.

Perry class: 1 requested, with possible requests later for up ro 5 more. After McInerney is handed over this year, given USN use of the ships of this class, it will be another 2 years before the next OHP becomes available.

Type 42: the interest in 3 batch 3 Type 42s is not confirmed to have led to anything (likely a fall-back option in case OHPs don't come through)

Milgem: The Pakistan Navy will acquire 4 Milgem class corvettes over a 10-year program, of which 3 will be manufactured in local shipyards

In sum, in the near future (up to 10 years):
4 F-22 p
1-6 Oliver perry class (maybe less than 6)
0-3 Type 42
4 - Milgem Turkish Stealth Corvette

(exit current frigates)

so basically

PN fleet inventory 2015

Surface Fleet

F22p 8
OHP class 3
Type 54 4
Melgiam corvette 1

Submarines
yuan class 3
Agosta 70 2
Agosta 90b 3
scorpane 2

plus other missile boats petrol boats and support ships.

It would be great to see 1 fleet command ship in the PN inventory any one of these ships, Meko(sachsen class) or TF2000 or FREMM.
