Agreed the huge jump for Pakistan should have been explained by the report. But OTOH your contention also seems inconsistent with the data. For India the no is in the 10K, if internal refugees are considered then hundreds of thousands of Kashmiri Pundits should have been included too.

The 1.5 million that are in Pakistan are 99% afghans, and the 350,000 number are Pakistani nationals who are internally displaced. That's the only theory I can come up with. There were only 50,000 refugees from pakistan from 2006-2010 when the security situation was much worse but 350,000 when the situation has gotten better.

If U dig deep then most of them would come out to be Afghanis with Pakistani Passport. Having said so the human smugglers are everywhere and its not the first time people from here have tried to enter Europe with the help of these smugglers where the fabricate stories to get asylum. If they go through normal routine then they would spend lots of money and time too. If they had that much money they would have gone to Middle East as labor. How i know that is because one of my own very relative used this tactic and he is now Belgian National since like 2010 and he came to know this tactic coz it had been used for quite sometime. Opportunist are everywhere.

Living in Canada I have seen this with almost every afghan.There is a sizable chunk of Afghans in Canada and almost all of them have come to Canada as a refugee with a Pakistani passport.

Perhaps, but once again even the economic situation is a lot better. In 2008 Pakistans economy was in complete shambles compared to now. I wish there was more context to these numbers so we could get a better picture.
