It is people like you that bother me. Clearly an educated person who knows better.
First they don't get paid more than they deserve. Infact I think they get paid too low which is in large measure one of the issues that then gets them to looks for alternative methods like plot allotments etc. Their track record in a rough neighborhood which is a den of pit vipers is reasonable to good. They have been a bulwark against existential threats from day 1 of the nations birth. They have gone through three major wars and a number of smaller conflicts. They have dealt with internal natural and human made disasters along with terrorism. The number of 4 star Generals is small. There too not all 4 Stars walk away loaded. Yes they get some allotments, but unless you are the few lucky ones to get choice appointments you are not rolling in big money.

Till a one star who are hand-to-mouth. Your kids all go to Army schools and unless you come from existing family wealth you are not appreciably increasing in wealth just because you wear a uniform. Lets not talk about the 99% of the army which is officer corp Col level and below that is operating on the least you can imagine.

Now as far as coming to them taking away 35% of budget - where do you get your third class statistics. 82% of Pakistan's budget is non-defence related. In the 70s it was about 6.5% of GDP. Today it is about 2.86. And in terms of size it is not a abnormally large army. Infact 64 countries have larger military personnel as a function of per capita. Also a big myth is our expenditure per capita is large. NOT TRUE. It is infact one of the lowest in the world. Where Israel spends approx $2000 per capita, Pakistan on spends $22. India spends $42,000 per solider we spend $12,500 per solider.

So before you go mouthing off half truth have some integrity. Also please get respectful when using terminology like "chowkidar".

Finally I agree military should not be a holy cow or sacrosanct and should be open to legitimate and positive criticism, not basal invective and falsehood to drive purposefully wrong conclusion in order to hurt one of our most critical institutions.
