2nd Zumwalt class destroyer, Michael Monsoor, begins sea trials

The submarine is a different class of weapon, even though it and surface ships shares the same operating environment -- water.

Having low visual and radar profiles, it looks like the Zumwalts are becoming the 'submarine' of surface combatants.

I'd fit 32 vertically launched LRASMS on the Zumwalts, with the rest consisting of Tomahawks, SM-6s, ESSMs. Then outfit the 2 forward guns with High Velocity Projectiles being developed for the railguns. Those projectiles should be operational by the early 20's. They can provide medium range anti surface and anti air/missile defense out to 50 miles. Hundreds of those rounds could be stored.

Crazy looking ship with the wildest looking bow ever. $4 billion for that ship is frankly nuts IMO. No wonder we're getting a new tax bill. Gotta pay for all this stuff, somehow.

Then with that absolute nutty cost, stealth, tech and expenses, it's operating an 8ft Raymarine radar on top of the tower? What's up with that?

The other wild thing is that ship has a ‎draft of ‎27.6 ft (8.4 m) which is pretty deep considering the size of the ship, and trekking it through that channel must be quite the challenge.
