PHP Automobiles in Bangladesh has been assembling Malaysian Proton Preve, which is similar to Mitsubishi Mirage and uses similar parts. It is popular locally as a new car (along with a half dozen other Proton minivans and SUVs) - most of the market used to buy/use JDM (ex-Japan Market) reconditioned vehicles, but govt. took a decision to phase these out last year in favor of encouraging more local assembly and manufacture of new vehicles,

Mitsubishi, Mitsui and Sumitomo groups are the largest in Japan. They produce from the pin to (air)plane. Because of the lack of concentration in one single field like other makers of motor vehicles, Mitsubishi cannot produce popular cars in Japan. Yet, it has money that produces highly acclaimed mechanical/ electrical technologies to build cars.

So, Proton or Mitsubishi direct would be a better option for a rising country like Bangladesh. Mitsubishi is willing to help develop other countries' car ventures. It can pursue its business by exporting its homemade high technology car components to them which cannot really compete against Toyota because it lacks concentration in car manufacturing only.
