255 Phd holders among 23 lakh lining for peon's job in UP

.

It is not a happy story too
Again policy makers have to think hard about structural changes in educating their people, like reshuffling of resources from university level training to more low to medium technical, skill-based vocational educations

.
the point is 255 indians have wasted their time, money and efforts studying for PhDs
You are fully qualified for a low skilled job with a high school diploma, or a bachelor's degree cant you?

It is not Like that. Some years ago, Thousand of highly educated boys applied for Bus conductor Job. 1500 of them selected and got the job. Except 200, all left the job for a better position in government and private jobs.

I just wanted to put forward that all PhDs are not equally employable, apart from academic jobs in their respective fields. And given that most of the academic positions are tenured, there will be job crunch in the market, and they will have to look at alternate employments.

You have missed my point

For example the social cost for training a student to PhD level is say $500,000 (US) vs the social cost for training an auto mechanics technician is $50,000. If the PhD graduate finally works as a mechanic in an auto repairing shop, then the social loss of the society ranges from $450K to 500K

Actually the real is cost not what it took to train them to be doctoral levels but what such a doctoral level person should produce over his career span. But a large number of such masters and phds in India are incapable of producing anything worthwhile - they got their seat via caste based quotas, were 'taught' by teachers who got that job through caste based quotas, in colleges that were started and run by corrupt politicians who got elected using caste politics. The whole bloody economy has become a welfare scheme for making caste based corrupt idiots even more usseless, if that is possible.

Fortunately the the other 20% that is extraordinarily capable, splits itself into a 10% NRIs who flourish abroad and remit money and 10% that stay home and produce enough for the 80% morons to survive in spite of being morons.

NOW: that is the story until and up to a handful of years ago. Internet and cell phones are changing all that. The latest generation seems to be very different - very world awar, very quality conscious and very much the smart tigers. That is why I am optimistic.
