So your using one state, a prosperous and tiny sliver of India as gauge for the entire country? Please stop being disingenus. And you expect me to believe that India does not have a national poverty line? The figures will have been updated for 2021, that is why I asked you. What is the poverty line for 2021.

The current poverty line is 1,059.42 Indian Rupees (62 PPP USD) per month in rural areas and 1,286 Indian rupees (75 PPP USD) per month in urban areas.

So you were referring to Anoop Satpathy committee's recommended minimum wage.

Aren't poverty line and minimum wage different criteria?

Only when if someone is unable to get the job ..but everyone is entitled to get 100 days of job under narega job card then you can exclude extreme poverty overall especially after getting free rations from BPL card .

So it's about 375x100 days free rations on BPL card. That calculates to INR 37,500 (USD 1.37 per day). This is entirely different from calculating poverty.

Below is a document released in 2020, and according to that, no poverty estimates have been released after 2013, based on the Tendulkar poverty line, on poverty data related to 2011-12.

What's Tendulkar poverty line?

After that, another committee recommended revision to INR 47 and INR 32 for Urban and Rural from INR 32 and INR 26, but no action was taken by the Indian government.

I am still unable to find the source that translates your poverty line to PKR 400,000 p.a.

.
That's 1 in 4.

Its unacceptable.

These pre covid numbers are heartbreaking. One can imagine what the figures be post covid.

Gives the term social animal, a sober meaning.

I'm not fussed about the stats, what we need is sincerity in the measuring of poverty. We need measures of varying degrees of poverty. In my mind the baseline should be;
- able to eat twice a day
- children are not malnourished
- have suitable shelter
- can afford medical treatment for common ailments
- have access to clean drinking water
- kids attend school

If someone does not have these criteria, we should consider them poor. The dollar/pkr value shouldn't matter.

That's right and that's how the poverty line is (or should be) defined.

Government should ensure all social services for minimum wage declared by them before defining any line for poverty.
