What's new

20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China

Remember Mahathir Mohammad ? Around 90 years as well when he was elected as Malaysian PM.

...well maybe my country is not much better.
Nguyễn Phú Trọng, our headhoncho is 78 year old. But I think he has delegated most work to Phạm Minh Chính.
Seriously, I think people stop thinking clearly when they hit the 70 mark. At that point, it's just pure instinct for survival. Politics need an age limit.

Yes. In fact, the Chinese government has always had a political tradition of "不历州县不拟台省". This tradition has even been passed down for thousands of years.

The CCP requires that the top leader must have the resume of serving as the secretary of at least two provincial Party committees.

In fact, only Hu Chunhua meets this standard. Ding Xuexiang is likely to be the first deputy prime minister and the future prime minister.
Yes, having some experience to administrate smaller regions will help you to administrate the bigger one. But the problem is that the challenge that PRC face right now is no longer about administrating your country. You have a premier for that. The danger that your president must face is actually come from outside. And China is really struggling in this matter. So somebody who know about international relationship, geopolitic management, and international economy should be prioritized.

Basically no one is qualified right now besides Xi, so they have to groom one who is adept in world geopolitic affairs and domestic overall management in the next 5 years if Xi is going to step down after the next 5 years.

I doubt anyone is going to know, really.
But I suspect it's infighting between different CCP factions, Xi's faction vs. Jiang Zemin's faction (Hu was one of Jiang's men).

I'm surprised how an old man like Jiang Zemin can still hold such a position and power in China, he's freaking over 90 year old already.

Infighting in politics is something normal

Hu Jintao purged.

the guy to the left of Hu wiping sweat of his face and he was for a moment tried to get up and help Hu but the guy sitting next to him taps his shoulder and asks him to sit down. Well, this looks like Xi's purge, Zhang Zemin did not attend the party Congress. And Hu is considered to be in Zhang's faction. Xi is removing everyone who he senses as his opposition.

BBC believes it's most likely to be Hu's health problem and he couldn't be able to sit through the whole meeting

You Indians as usual making delusional rubbish remarks about Chinese matters. Jiang is little too old for the meeting and Hu is not in Jiangs faction, idiot.

. .
He was touching Xi and Li quite emotionally when he was left.
Like a grandpa saying bye bye to his kids.
I wish he will be ok, he is a nice guy, still remeber him arriving in Wenchuan after the bigges earthquake recorded in the history in 2008.

Doesn't look like it.

It seems like Hu is initially reluctant to leave and the bodyguards had to 'forcefully' escort him in the first 5 seconds. He took Xi's paper (mistakenly?) at 0:07 and Xi stopped it. Most other leaders in the row are giving a stoic look acting like nothing happened.

Maybe Hu is already senile and acting incoherently, or he disapproves Xi's third term.
