2019: US GDP per capita $65.000 (Russia: $11.400, China $10.000)

.
US is human miracle, most successful country ever.

It really is when you think about it, it is relatively superior to the Roman empire during its peak. Compared to the world's poorest and least developed countries, the US is like an advance alien species.

$65k per capita is amazing growth under Trump.

.
wow, in 1980s, US gdp per capita was 40x of Chinese gdp per capita, in 2019, US gdp per capita is only 6x of Chinese. Back in the 1980s, people would think never in the millions year China would be able to match US in GDP per capita. 40 years later, people actually think China has a chance to match the US, although still long way to go, LOL.

You know they are in the state of uneasiness if they have to resort to number picking to prove their superiority.

This dollar based number can fluctuate dramatically with the exchange rate, and I checked the OP number is not right about the future projection, in 2022 most projections are China's per capita over 15000 dollars.

.
GDP per capita is meaningful comparison only if the population size are roughly similar. Smaller countries tend to have higher per capita. Simple math, smaller population means smaller denominator. Second, production output is not 1-for-1 proportionate to head count. E.g. Having more people working in farm or factory will not increase output if there's not enough machinery or efficient modern machinery.

Not surprising, highest GDP per capita are mostly countries with smaller population.

So we always said, China is still a developing country, not a superpower

Developing, but the impact is huge.

It feels almost like a developed country.

I cant imagine when China is a fully developed.

Smaller population also means smaller numerator.

Smaller countries tend to have higher per capita.
Not surprising, highest GDP per capita are mostly countries with smaller population.

For every Luxembourg there's a East Timor. There are far more small countries than large countries in the world and therefore they make up the majority of the list of both rich and poor countries.

However people tend to look just at the list of highest GDP per capita and come to the wrong conclusion that small countries tend to be richer.

There is no evidence that a country with a small population tends to have higher GDP per capita.
Let's look at the correlation:

The regression is extremely weak.

The problem with the OP(and many others) logic is they are focusing on the Avg citizen in each country(China and US) but in reality we have to compare the total GDP per capita which is = Per capita income $ X # of citizens. For eg US has $65,000 per capita , and CHina has ~$12,000, but China has more than 3X US population, and so when you take the total income ,and total GDP, US is only more than China like 1.5X. What about US debt too? US owes $22Trn. how much does China owe? All i'm saying is US has a lead on China, but not much, and if its not much, its as good as equal imo. US does have military and technological advantage still though..
