Rattan kumar of Jagruti and bedari movie fame
In the mid-fifties he came to Pakistan with his family and settled in Lahore. His first appearance was in Sharif Nayar’s Masoom (1957), a family melodrama which attracted a large female audience. The song Lelo Choorian, picturized on Rattan, became a favorite of children of all ages.

How are they planning to make DEVDAS..? Only film which was truly based on Sharatchandra's classic novel is the first one..Shahrukh's movie was not entirely based on the novel..

pakistani cinema had good movies long ago.. when they followed real talent making punjabi movies.. ever since they started turning to urdu in movies they totally went down.. because urdu and hindi are like same and naturally bollywood is so much bigger and better that urdu lollywood can give no competition.. maybe they will have one of two good movies once in like decade like khuda ke liye (even that has bolly actor naseerudin shah).. but otherwise lollywood is getting just bad..

they should go back to making punjabi movies.. back in 50s indian punjabis only used to watch pakistani punjabi movies they barely had their own.. later on i know all indian punjabi movies back in 60s 70s and 80s were all inspired from pakistani punjabi movies.. but today even punjabi advantage pakistanis had they are loosing it since indian punjabi cinema is improving a lot now.. not as good as bollywood but improving little by little.. i feel dat was strong point of pakistani cinema.. now it no longer has datt.. all early pakistani punjabi movies are legendaryy like maula jatt nd the like..

It is not just the year 2010 but the whole last decade or more which has proved to be worst for Pakistani film industry.

Pakistan movie industry died in the 80s under Zia. We had fantastic movies in the 70s and 80s.

People need education and jobs right now, not movies!

The original article says that Pakistani theaters showing Indian movies do very well. And Indian movie DVDs also sell well.

People always want entertainment. If Lollywood doesn't provide it, they will get it from Bollywood.

True but in case of Pakistan, it is best if film makers concentrate on social issues and start with art movies rather than to go straight for romantic movies.

Oh, GOD NO!!!!!
The last thing we need is artsy farsty movies, or heavy moralizing movies, that maybe three people watch.

We want movies that ordinary people want to watch, i.e. light entertainment. Boy meets girl. Good songs. Nothing more complicated.

you are saying they were imposed on general populace of Pakistan.

Musharraf made the big mistake that he opened up the Pakistani media to the world, including India, without requiring a quid pro quo from India.

Pakistan should not allow Indian programs on its airwaves until India returns the favor.

See that falls in complete different iota of discussion. The point of discussion was that people were forced to watch those movies forcibly.

(ignoring the fact that as per Batman Talibs blew people who did not watched them)

our cinema died, when Waheed Murad aka our chocolate hero died :(

Murad died on November 23, 1983, disheartened by Lollywood and what Chacha Zia had done to it.

The "Islamisation" of the state under Zia ul-Haq in the late 1970s also undermined the entertainment industries, which were seen as morally degenerate. Now, Lollywood produces perhaps 40 films a year, compared to Bollywood's thousand or so releases.

I hate Zia.

I think one potential super hit can be some film on "Kashmir United" with Mr Geelani and Ms Roy as leading actors. :cheesy:

Film Tiger Starring Sultan Rahi & Anjuman, Music Mushtaq Ali, Lyrics Syed Gillani

I assume your answer must be correct. No Indian can answer that so promptly and correctly. Most (read all) Indians do not even know these personalities.

I am convinced about your nationality. thanks.
