20 In US Believe Obama Is Muslim: Report

.
Isn't Obama technically a Muslim because his father was Muslim?

Not really, being muslim is about an individual. If you dont believe in islam, then you are not muslim, even if your father was muslim. you have to believe in one god, mohammad(pbuh) as the last prophet, the other prophets(jesus, moses, noah, joseph etc), the quran as the last bood from god, the bible, turah etc. if somebody doesnt believe in those things he is not muslim.

No. Religion is a choice. Its not an inherited factor like race. I am of Indian origin, and I am Hindu. I cant change my race, but i can change my religion.

Another misconception about religion is the 'half-half' concept. For example, Obama is born to a Black Muslim father and a White Christian mother. So racially he is half-black, half-white. and he cant change that. but religion-wise he cant be half-Muslim half-Christian. Religion is a choice. He could have chosen Buddhism, if he felt like it.

The mis-conception that Obama is Muslim could be due to his family background and his childhood days in Muslim majority Indonesia.

Also he had shown much understanding and sympathy towards Muslims.

And of course there are Americans who voted against him wanted to see him fall in disgrace.

In South East Asia, if one is born with Muslim parents, then he/she is automatically a Muslim, but they do have a choice to change their religion upon coming of age at 18 years old by applying to the Syariah Court, as in Malaysia.

Your mixing up religion and race. No one is born Muslim though obviously your more likely to embrace that if your parents were Muslims since that would be what they will be teaching you when your little. Everyone with half a brain knows Obama has always been a christian. The guy never converted or anything like that he always went with the christian faith thankfully it paid off in him getting more votes.

Quite frankly I don't understand what the fuss is about.

In America it shouldn't matter what religion a person follows (guaranteed by the constitution) and why should we care what the president believes if the citizens have religious freedom? I'd be the first to support a Muslim president if he could roll back the recession and improve education. It is funny that the liberal media is also jumping on the bandwagon and making such a huge deal out of it. I think this shows that a person, no matter how "liberal" he is, harbours some prejudice as well.

As for the 20% of people who thought Obama was Muslim, I wonder how they'll feel once they've been told that Franklin, Jefferson, and many of America's founding fathers were Deists.:rofl::rofl:

I heard this stupid **** during the US election campaign that Obama is a Muslim no matter what he says because other Muslims will see him as a Murtad.

To this day I have not found a Muslim who thinks Obama is a Murtad, not even crazy Taliban sympathizers on the Internet.

It is possible Obama uses his faith to win votes and is not a true believer. Because his entire life is too neat, too planned to rule out that possibility. He seems to have planned his life to be the first black President. The 20% of people who said Obama is a Muslim may merely think that all non-Christians are Muslims or simply think Obama is not a true Christian. It highly depends on the wording, and in a few months nobody will remember this stupid ground zero mosque controversy and the numbers might drop. Obama is one well handled crisis from becoming popular again (or for the cynical, one war).

And yet look at the headlines? What does it say about attitudes in the press and in the general public?

It seems US opinion makers cannot seem to accept reality and need controversy - WHY? well, it sells - but it also seems that it makes for good politics - what does that say about the quality of plitics in the US?

Additonally the US government or at least sections of the government, like the Justice dept, seem determined to be a part of this kind of politics.
