Rangers / Army should have kicked all their a$$es and established the writ of the State!
Instead, they were too worried about their image and bowed down once again to the extremists in our society.
This is why Pakistan is in the state that it is. No one seems willing or able to take on the extremists / corrupt / treacherous in the country.
Aggressive behaviour is NOT always the best solution. The govt had already tried aggression via police to disperse the crowd but instead the crowd got violent and wounded policemen and burned their vehicles. Moreover, much more people joined the protest after police aggression.
Seeing failure of their strategy, the govt called COAS to help diffuse the already worsened situation and Pak Army acted wisely and diffused the already out-of-control scenario and restored peace. Any use of aggression by Pak Army will have resulted in civil war all across Pakistan. Enemies of Pakistan ( both intenal and external ) wanted the civil war scenario which was averted by proper behaviour of Pak Army as per situation required.
As for the "bowing down" part, the agreement is done between GOVT and Protesters; No signature of any military official. So its the govt which have bowed down in front of protesters; not Pak Army.
Pakistan is in this state because of corrupt and incompetent govt and politicians. They allowed the protest of linger on to 20 days and made situation worse using their botched strategies.
That is the real "take away" from this absurd situation. It confirms to outsiders Pakistan is a soft fragile state. I read somewhere even the Chinese are not happy about this.
Don't get me wrong. The state has enough power at it's disposal to make mincemeat out of the "miscreants" but it is not about power deficit. At end of the day somebody, somewhere has to sign off the order for action to be taken. This is where the PM, Interior Minister, COAS, IG, IG-Rangers etc etc are all hiding away.
Non wants to make this politically difficult decision. There might be deaths. There might mass reaction from mullahs etc. Non is prepared to give the order and face the political backlash.
This is all about lack of real leadership.
By the end of protest, all nation saw that the politicians were hiding away in their Deras and villages to save themselves from the wrath of protesters after police action. Ahsan Iqbal refused to take responsibility of botched police action. Seeing their failure, Pak Army was called and they difused the situation properly. COAS or DG Rangers didn't shy away from dealing with aggravated situation.
It should be a top govt official who should be distributing money among masses to go back homes but none was anywhere to be found. So DG Ranger had to do the job of incompetent politicians too to send protestors back homes
