Yup, the debate was well done, and the majority of the debate was involved in pushing the envelope wrt freedom of expression in sex, religion, political thought and so on. Pushing the envelope through crass films and letting the audience to dump or boost the film is not the way to show creativity or expanding the boundaries of movie making. Where will the boundaries stop then if movies on pedophilia, orgies, open abuse of public personalities, and expletives against religious figureheads are allowed. Should the movie going audience be the judge of that ? Or should vested interest groups be ?watch this interesting debate on indian cinema
The point i was trying to make was more in line with what Prasoon Joshi says at 29:15. It is on having creativity with/without crassness which can offer a story never seen/heard before, and keep them rapt with attention. The formula of song/dance routines and having the audience transferred from the slums of Mumbai from one scene to the Swiss Alps on the next must be changed, because this defies logic. In that sense, at the expense of nudity/political freedom/religious freedom or any other goals, one should allow them as long as they fit into the larger picture of the story the Movie is trying to convey. The number of original movies in Indian cinema are fast dwindling with massive Ctrl-C Ctrl-V going on across different languages simply with different settings.
