Good news colleagues,
according to ISPR web-site, Turkey and Pakistan have signed a MoU for the co-production of 155mm Panther Howitzer with a range of 40KM. the keys for the 1st example were handed over to Army School of Artillery recently.

So does that mean that there is a posibility that Pakistan might buy the Panther Howitzer

.
Maybe I missed it, but I thought the press release only spoke of a vague "MOU on defence production and cooperation"; nothing specifically about co-producing the howitzer.

.
I think they are evaluating it right now, and if they like it. May be they will get it.

.
As you can see its only in initial stages, even in Turkey.

Objective: Initiated as an R&D Programme of Land Forces Command under the name “Panther” the project is supported by MKEK (ÇelikSan, ÇanSaş, MakSan), together with the 1011th and 1013th Ordnance Main Depot Commands. The 155 mm/52 Cal Towed Howitzer is expected to replace the 203 mm Howitzers and 115 mm M114 Towed Howitzers, as the Corps General Support Artillery System. With 2 prototypes already produced and tested, the project is at the series production stage.

Project Model: Indigenous Development

Prime Contractor: MKEK (ÇelikSan, ÇanSAŞ, MakSan)

the army will never provide full details of what programs they are involved in, only "vague" ideas.
since only 2 prototypes were produced and 1 has been handed over to pak army school of artillery and furthermore, the head of the turkish armed forces logistics and procurement comes to pakistan to hand it over means more than just "vague moU" being signed. army needs to increase its inventory of 155mm guns and needs to do it in a cost-effective manner. the us guns in our inventory are good but expensive.

Turkey unveils towed howitzer with 40km range
LALE SARIIBRAHIMOGLU

Turkey's state-owned Machines and Chemical Industry Board (MKEK) has unveiled the prototype of a 155mm/52-cal towed howitzer that has a range of 40km. The Turkish Land Forces Command (TLFC) disclosed last year that it expected to field two locally-produced 155mm/52-cal systems, one towed and one self-propelled, later this decade (Jane's Defence Weekly 13 October). According to TLFC sources, MKEK received assistance from Singapore Technologies Kinetics (previously known as Ordnance Development and Engineering of Singapore) in the development of the new towed weapon.

The Turkish weapon is similar to the Singaporean 155mm/52-cal FH2000 that entered service with the Singapore Armed Forces in the mid-1990s and has since been offered for export. Serial production of the new howitzer will start soon, said MKEK officials. These will replace some of the TFLC's 500-plus 155mm M114 howitzers, which have a range of only 14.6km firing standard high-explosive projectiles. Late last year Turkey unveiled a prototype self-propelled howitzer (SPH), designated SP2000, equipped with a 155mm/39-cal barrel. This built on experience gained by MKEK in the modernisation of elderly US-supplied 105mm M52 and 155mm M44 SPHs. A second SP2000 equipped with a 155mm/52-cal barrel is due for completion this year.

Industry sources suggest that the SP2000 will not meet the army's specifications and that Turkey is seeking foreign assistance with the programme. The TLFC had hoped to acquire the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann 155mm/52-cal PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery system. However, the German government will not allow export of the weapon or subsystems to Turkey. Following preliminary talks between Turkish and Republic of Korean (RoK) officials earlier this year about the scope for defence industry co-operation between the two countries, the TLFC is likely to consider the new Samsung Aerospace Industries 155mm/52-cal K9 Thunder for its SPH requirement (JDW 29 March). The K9 is now in quantity production for the RoK Army.

Pakistan army has a good experience with the artillary as during the kargil war, indians acknowlege this fact that majority of their losses were due to the artillary used by pakistan where the indians lacked. Upgrading it to 155mm will defenitely boost us up. I think we should sign for a possible induction and manufacturing it in pakistan.
