15,000MW dam project shelved by Wapda

Well, submerging the whole of Skardu is no option IMO.

Beter to go ahead with Bhasha and Kalabagh and other dams.

This dam has been shelved on account of security and heritage point of view.

This dam is at the top of Pakistan. Its construction will submerge the whole skardu valley. Secodly this dam will be like a bomb shell for Entire pakistan. Its very close to indian boarder.
It has water capacity equiavalent to 5 times of tarbella.

In case of war, a single missle attack on the dam will submerge whole kpk, GB and punjab.

More over the project site is a high sesmic region. Making it vulnerable to damage.

Pakistan need Katzarah dam because
1- the slit which comes in Indus basin is from skardu which reduces the life of small dams
2-the katzarah will have the capacity of 35 million acre feet. It will store this much water .the averafe water which goes to sea is almost 50 million acre feet
3- will produce 15000 MW of electricity and have life of 1000 years and will extend the life of bhasha from 80 years to 800 years .
4- will stop the slit and improve our economy
5- As for expenses will cause 9 to 10 billion dollars (US) . It is much smaller than we have lost money in 2010 floods
6- Multi purpose dam and will stop all floods
7-yes, It will submerge whole skardu but the people should migrate to other parts and government shouldnprovide funds to them and manage there rehabilitation issues .
8- we have to think about whole paksitan not just skardu .may ALLAH grant us katzarah dam
9- we should also make bunji dam which will generate 7100 MW of electricity .
Following dams should be made
1- Katzarah Dam (15000MW)
2-Bunji dam (7100MW)
3-Diamer Bhasha (4500MW)
4-Dasu Dam (4320 MW )
If these are made we can export our electricity

I still don't understand why pakistan not adding much Dams after independence so that there is no power shortage.India added almost 30,000 MW of electricity every year(From 2015-2016) and currently having 3,05,550 MW of total electricity production until 30 August 2016.

This will be the cheapest dam construction wise but displacement of the whole population is the real headache. This whole area between mountains will be filled by water. But storage of water in the dam will take years to produce 15000MW electricity. In case of any misshaping whole Pakistan will be flooded

Pakistan is not capable of 15000 mw project. It is not able to collect funds for 4500 MW diamir basha. There are only 2 dams of this size, Itaipu in Paraguay/Brazil and Three gorges in China.

With all water coming from India and with India looking to exploit Indus waters and rising Indian demand for power and also glaciers retreating, the water flow into Pakistan is bound to reduce in future.

You are right, Pakistan is not able collect funds for 4500 MW diamir basha, do you know why? Our corrupt politicans are known for creating fake schems to collect money, borrowing/loans from banks, and 95% of the development funds are stolen by these corupt politicans. In last 20 years 20 to 30 billion dollars stolen from Pakistan.

I am sure a keen observer can list these fake schemes/development projects by pmln and ppp.

Same here in Indian society. Due to low income, More respect for rich and corrupt than a poor but dedicated person. So people seek power than excellence/passion in profession. It will take a long time for mindset to change.
