What's new

106 upgraded Tejas jets to replace MiGs

What happened to mk2?weather iaf will support/induct it or what.

I think this is one level up and then Mk2 will come later. A pretty decent plan. Means AESA will be there in over 100 of them right from the start.

So in short it is still not finished.

AESA RADAR is still being developed and also it will be interesting to see how they will shave off thousand kgs from an already developed aircraft.

There won't be any AESA in JF 17 by 2018.

Are people just too stupid or in denial.

This is how every self sufficient country does things.
You induct the plane first and eventually root out the bugs and upgrade them
.

What is so hard to understand?
Tejas SPs will be inducted before the Tejas Mk1As and after the Mk1A tests are done the serial production Tejas' coming out of the factory will be Tejas Mk1A.

The quartz cone is done IFRs are procured and everything is being tested as we speak.

Mk1A are just upgrades, Mk2 on the other hand is whole another ball game.

It is almost a new plane with new engine more indigenous sub systems and will have to go thru stringent tests before induction, Mk1A on the other hand should be easier to incorporate.

As for LCA being operationally deployment the first 40 LCA are of Mk-1 configuration which are already in production.First SP-1 is officially handed over to IAF last year.
There is only 20 mk1 and 106 mk1A no more 40 mk1

Im Waiting See Performance of LCA Mk1A
  1. Reducing 1000 Kg will Increase it ITR and STR and Speed of Mach 1.79, Practically GE404IN20 is Most upgraded Version of its Series Theoretically it Can Go Mach 2 Like Volvo RM-12 of Saab Gripen
  2. AESA Integration will Increase its SAR capabilities which Good in A-to-G Op's
  3. Integration Of Derby ER and Astra
  4. Carry-in stand Off Munitions Standoff DEW For SEAD. Israel offered to co-develop a variant of this DEW with India on July 7, 2008 during an official meeting in Pune with the DRDO. This was followed by two additional meetings held in Delhi with senior DRDO and IAF officials in August and September 2008. The joint R & D project officially began in mid-2010 and series-production of this DEW will commence later this year, with the Kalyani Group being the prime industrial contractor from the Indian side.

However, during CAS missions, it will be preferable for the Tejas Mk1s to be armed only with Python-5s for self-protection, since such missions—flown by either the Tejas Mk1 or ‘Combat Hawks’—always be escorted by the IAF’s upgraded Mirage 2000Is or upgraded MiG-29UPGs conducting offensive air-superiority sweeps.

I don't Know Where the News Coming From @PARIKRAMA
Well HAL Chief Said first upgraded Tejas with better radar, missiles system, mid-air refueling capability, would be handed over to the force by 2018.

Hope it can be achieved on Schedule

Any Knowledge about HAL Shifting Its Production to PPP Model
Of what I heard Any Update on that

Although there Many good Achievements in JF-17 which HAL Should Look For Like Anti-ship Integration and Larger Payload in Block-2.No Doubt its At more Mature Stage

AESA Radar will be of Israeli . And same radar will be used to modify our many older fleets like jags.

As of now to reduce the weight we will replace landing gear with less complicated less weight LG rest will be covered from dead weight balast from current version. More over many modification planned in internal arrangements so use most of balast available.

So it would be quite possible . Air force now has accepted the flying characteristics of tejas with F404 engine itself can achieve +8 G / -3.5 G and supersonic in all altitude. By losing 1000 kg or at least 500 kg could improve tejas performance better than that of F16 in close combat dogfight scenario and gives more heavy external play loads options .

Could there be better option to replace Mig21? If HAL had started Tejas delivery as planned let's day 2013/15 am sure IAF could had gone for more than 200 LCA MK1P .

Am worried just over 100 LCA with AESA radar by 2023 could be enough to compensate our 100s of Mig fleet . Too little too late.

Hope More 40+ SU30 MKI will be ordered along with Rafale jets. As IAF would increase Su30 availability by over 85 % with new deal clinched with Russia to make India as second major base to repair, upgrades Sukois allover the world...

1 complete squadron with MK1 configuration will be formed by 2018 . MK1P could be ready by then . And it will take very less time to test and induction into the fleet. As tejas design and capabilities are already satisfactory. And these add on upgrades are been validated before they get selected. So technology demonstration and validation of MK1P will be quick than time will take for MK2 or Time took for MK1

chakde bro,,,mk1 was supposed to be a poor mans mirage,,even after several requirement waivers,,wo nahi ban paya,as of now widout a gun n bvr,its a flying duck,,,,,now dpsu's promising a souped down kfir.,n look at the proposed timelines,,,anothr joke in the making

Bhai,
I konw several things went wrong with project right from the begining but you have to look at the complexities iñvolved as well.

. . . .
spares are coming from Russia. In case of Tejas, they have to manufacture by themself.
If you Have Some Knowledge in Aerospace Sector You Answered Your Own Question

Let Me Ask Which area is more Troublesome Getting Spares From Third-party or Indigenous Logistic Support??Got It

16 birds per year? So that take atleast 6-7 years. While this news put time-frame from 2018 to 2022-23, maximum 5 year. isnt it soemthing weird?
