10 defence industry programs Pakistan should pursue (But it isn't)

@Bilal Khan (Quwa) and @Penguin thank you for your posts there. I think providing some expeditionary capability to Pakistans Marines long term is important and also to increase capability for Peacekeeping Ops. I was basing this on when the Brits first went into Sierre Leone.

The Helo carrier can be an aspiration long into the future and to get the experience for those kind of Ops and deployments that Turkish STM LPD you've suggested @Bilal Khan (Quwa) would be a better start.

Give yourself a foreign base somewhere in the Globe and you will see LHD (even aircraft carrier at some point) blowing in PAK navy like flowers on steroids... but before that... even LPD is not that usefull...

. .
we also need to produce all terrain millitary transport vehicles and trucks to replace currently in service land rovers and toyota trucks, like India(TATA etc) is producing at home,
or initialy go for joint venture with China or Turkey

Ocean was designed to provide the amphibious assault capabilities for marines but is also capable of supporting afloat training and acting as a base facility for other embarked forces, including counter-terrorism units.

She has capacity to carry 40 vehicles and 830 troops, which she can land using helicopters and craft carried on davids (specifically 1 Pacific 22 Mk2 seaboat and four LCVP Mk5B) and an organic pontoon. She can support a mix of some 18 attack and transport helicopters (Wildcat, Merlin, Chinook, Apache).

In PN service, in an amphibious assault role, she could operate PA and/or PAF Mi-17, and PA Aerospatiale Puma / Fennec, Bell UH-1 Huey, Bell 412 Twin Huey transport helicopters. These could be backed by Mi-35 Hind or Bell AH-1.

Although she has no ASW sensors or weapons, HMS Ocean is also capable of limited anti-submarine warfare activities: she could support a number of ASW helicopters e.g. PN Westland Sea Kings and Z-9s. A ship carrying, say, 12 ASW helicopters and 6 attack helicopters, would be something to recon with, although due to her light self-defence armament (4 × 30mm DS30M Mk2 guns, 3 × Phalanx CIWS, 4 × Miniguns, 8 × General purpose machine gun, plus
UAT Electronic Support Measures, DLH decoy Launchers and Surface Ship Torpedo Defence), she would be very dependent her escorts for protection.

However, if looking for a ship that can combine e.g. peacetime anti-piracy duties and wartime ASW duties ....

Bunga-Mas-Lima.jpg

http://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/a-ship-that-still-isnt-a-frigate/

The Malaysian Navy converted the Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (MISC) Bunga Mas Lima into an auxiliary patrol ship, equipped with a helicopter pad and hangar, small boat handling systems and personnel accommodation for seventy.
The Bunga Mas Lima (BM5) has achieved some success in the counter-piracy role. Another vessel, the Bunga Mas Enam (BM6), has also been converted, rescuing the MT Bunga Laurel from Somali pirates in 2013. Both vessels are owned and crewed by MISC but the security personnel and aircrew are from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
The Malaysian MoD have published an excellent overview of OP FAJAR, their efforts to combat pirate activity in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, click here to read.

Conversion included modification to accommodate extra crew, fittings for launching rigid hull inflatable boats, a helicopter deck to accommodate landing/take-off and a hangar. The foreword crane of Bunga Mas Lima was taken out since it presence inhibited helicopter landing while the 2nd crane were rested to the starboard side of the ship above the hangar. She carrier 1 helicopter (Eurocopter Fennec or AgustaWestland Superlynx

I can easily see a variant with 2 hangars (i.e. 2 helicopters) and some container mounted selfdefence equipment e.g. a remote control pedestal mounted MANPADs, some 20-30mm cannon, a decoy/chaff/flare launcher. But nothing fancy.
http://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/a-ship-that-still-isnt-a-frigate/getting-fighty/

This with 2 frigates as escorts doubles a group's ASW helicopter load out, at a fraction of the cost of a frigate platform.

You purchased the Mufakkiry and Derweishy of Hazrat? Apparently they are coming for a year+ now however our Hazrat has taken a liking to South African MRAP's lately to keep you updated.

. .
How Many years that's gonna last 5 6 ?? For Ant Sub Warfare we need Corvettes
She first commissioned 30 September 1998 and so is now 18 years old. Assuming she was designed for 30 years of service, that means she can go for another 12 years. Considering the first Type 21 frigate was commissioned 11 May 1974 and is still in service as PNS Babur (42 years old), she could go for 24 more years.

The near comparable Tarlac-class LPD sold to the Philippines by Indonesia cost around $100m a ship. I think this STM LPD would cost $125-$150m.
USD$37.5 million ~ USD$45 million
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makassar-class_landing_platform_dock

Indonesia placed a $150m order with the Korean trading company Daewoo International in December 2004 for four warships through the export credit facility.

That be US$37.5 million a pop.

$46 million (without weapons and sensors)

PhP 3,863,999,520 for a pair (in August 30, 2013)
http://manilastandard.net/news/-main-stories/119380/indonesian-firm-bags-p4-b-navy-supply-deal.html
Today, that's $79,5 million for a pair (so exchange rates probably moved) > US$40 milllion apiece

The Philippine Government signed a $92m contract with PT PAL for two amphibious transport ships in June 2014.
http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/tarlac-class-strategic-sealift-vessels/
Thats US$ 46 million a pop.

Two (2) Units SSV Procurement Project at a cost of Php.3.8B (USD 46M) last 15-November-2014. Total Cost of two (2) units SSV Php7.6B (USD 96M);
http://maritimereview.ph/2016/09/30/technical-observation-on-sea-keeping-performance-of-ssv-tarlac/
That's US$48 million a pop
_______________________

PT PAL confirmed that the Tarlac SSVs will be designed to support one 76 mm (3 in) gun on the foredeck as the main armament. Two stern-facing 25 mm guns will also be fitted, one each on the port and starboard sides. The secondary cannons will likely be the Mk 38 Mod 1 or Mod 2 Cannons
https://web.archive.org/web/2016030...outlines-weapons-fit-for-philippine-navy-ssvs

The weapons systems will be installed separately by the Philippine Navy after delivery.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarlac-class_landing_platform_dock#Armaments

The unit cost of the 76mm gun ranges between $1.5 million and $2 million apiece, depending on the number of units ordered and the customer.

Can't imagine 25mm cannon being more expensive.

Sensors and processing systems:
  • Navigational radar
  • Surface & Air search radar (planned)
  • Electro-Optical Fire Control System (planned)
Electronic warfare & decoys:
  • Electronic Warfare Suite (planned)

I see. I misread the Tarlac SSV's cost for $96m per ship, but it's actually for two ships. Then I can't see the STM LPD's cost straying far from $50m per ship.

Endurance class to Thailaind: SG$200 million = US$143 million

The first USN Whidbey Island-class LSD to be retired will be Fort McHenry in FY 2027 (in 10 years)
