Air Marshal Malik Nur Khan dies

I am passing this exchange of posts between Commander Bhattacharya, Secretary Royal Indian Military Academy, Dhera Dhun and General V N Sharma, ex Indian Army Chief. It is a rare tribute and classic example of how the man had earned the respect of his colleagues of pre partition days...

Shooting Down the First Soviet Su-25

I WAS THERE MIRANSHAH AND RUTSKOI The name may sound like one of a great Saint or Pir but the fact is, it is a small town in North Waziristan Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan. It is located quite close to the Pak-Afghan border. During the eighties, when the...

    Air Force Question Thread

Yes, disorientation means loss of orientation in space. A disoriented pilot is unable to make out whether he is turning left or right or flying straight and level or inverted. It has nothing to do with the lack of oxygen or high G manoeuvring. It is caused by the lack of visual cues and normally...

    Air Force Question Thread

This is a Quickie II. It was a kit plane acquired and assembled by the Aircraft Manufacturing Factory, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex somewhere in the late 80s. It flew only a few times since it had some serious engine/airframe issues and was later given to the museum.

Khalid ibn waleed ( The sword of Allah)

It would be of interest to many readers that many of Khalid's battles including Yarmouk are still taught as part of the curriculum at various armed forces staff colleges even today. I have great respect for the Sword of Allah and have had the honour of visiting his mazar in Homus, Syria.

1999: UAE to contract 200 PAF pilots to fly latest F-16s block 60

Behram, I appreciate your concerns but most of the information you have is not true. There are no Italians coming as the M-346 deal has already been put on hold (you can say it is almost canceled). They still have a lot of Jordanians and a few Canadians. The Americans are there but just...

1999: UAE to contract 200 PAF pilots to fly latest F-16s block 60

Honestly, most of the time the reason for cancellation/non renewal of the contract is persistent poor performance as an instructor. It should be noted that between 2002 and 2010 nine Pakistani instructors were hired but a correspondingly large number of Westerners and Arabs were taken on. The...

1999: UAE to contract 200 PAF pilots to fly latest F-16s block 60

Agreed. Pakistani pilots are decreasing in strength in UAE but the major reason for this is that a large number now goes to Airblue and Shaheen after retirement. Yes, they are not allowed to fly the F-16s. This restriction is from the US side.
