Govt proposes absolute autonomy for SBP

Honorable Sit, I agree with you that we have seen extraordinary judicial activism, but SBP is already supposed to be autonomous. What is being proposed is essentially what it should have been since 1997.

Govt proposes absolute autonomy for SBP

I found the following two definitions of ‘Autonomy’ The right of self-government by a state or an organization. The capacity of an agent to act in accordance with objective morality rather than under the influence of desires. Thus a completely autonomous state simply implies that a...

Govt proposes absolute autonomy for SBP

The current Governor of SBP will not be in his position forever. Granting absolute autonomy to SBP does mean handing it over to IMF. It simply means that the political gov't will not be able to manipulate the statistics or SBP policies for political mileage and the data coming out of the SBP...

Pakistan to save $300mn annually from Qatar LNG deal: Imran Khan

My understanding is that with the large-scale availability of LNG from coal-associated gas in Australia (Major LNG expansion took place between 2014 -2019- current production capacity about 88-million tons p.a.) It is difficult to see any scarcity of LNG in the next 5 to 10 years in the Far...

Pakistan to save $300mn annually from Qatar LNG deal: Imran Khan

Most honorable Sir, For the record, I have no political affiliations. In my opinion, Pakistan saw the best governance during the first 7 years of Ayub Khan (1958-65)and the first 3 years of Musharraf, that is before he was snared in by the Chaudhry brothers of Gujarat. Therefore I have no love...

    Lessons From 1971 War

Sir, However, assuming I made a mistake, one would agree that had the 42-million Bengali Muslim not joined forces with the 34-million West Pakistani Muslims, it would have been difficult for the British to overcome the Congress demand of independent United India. I was referring to the time...

Pakistan to save $300mn annually from Qatar LNG deal: Imran Khan

Honorable Jungibaaz, As I understand it, This is a 3.0 tons per year 10-year contract with slightly lower prices. Since it was signed only last Friday, I do not know the exact price; rumors are that the selling price is at 10.2% of the Brent. Should this be true, the new price is indeed about...

    Lessons From 1971 War

Most honorable Sir, I am humbled that you desired to know my comments on your post. Except for an absence of about 20 months, I was in Pakistan when all of this happened. Here is what I think. Looking at the map of Pakistan prior to 1971, an unbiased observer would at once notice that it was...

Saudi Arabia plans to set up $10 billion oil refinery in Gwadar by year-end

Regret to say that these are all speculations. Abu Dhabi refinery announced nearly 5 years ago is nowhere to be seen. I would not believe it until such time the contract for the construction has been signed.

I regularly buy Extra Virgin olive oil - Sainsbury's own brand at £3.40 per liter at my local Sainsbury Superstore. At about Rs 220/- to £1/- this comes to Rs 748/- per liter. Premium quality Greek Extra Virgin olive oil is about £9/- that is about Rs 1900/- per liter. Rs 2000/- per liter...

Oil smuggling inflicting Rs150bn loss to economy annually: PM

Finally, an article in the "Dawn" echoing what I had posted a month ago. Quote THERE has been an interesting twist in the situation as the government moves to shut retail outlets selling petrol and diesel smuggled from Iran. In a hearing before the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum on...

Pakistan's Economy - News and Updates

Honourable Patriot forever, Any debate where rational arguments based on correct figures are used instead of emotional outbursts is always a pleasure to read. I concur with most of your post except your sentence “One cannot make sweeping statements like that.” Kindly permit me to say why I...

Pakistan's Economy - News and Updates

Regret to say that this video is full of misleading information and definitely made by a devout Imran Khan follower who would not hesitate to use inject incorrect figures along with some correct info in support of his demi-god. For example, as I had been earning a very decent salary for a long...

Let down by UAE firm, Pakistan seeks two LNG cargoes

A window on the near to medium term LNG market: Quote S&P Global Platts Analytics expects global LNG demand to grow by 2% in 2020 to around 362 million mt, despite the pandemic, and by another 3% in 2021. This is slower than the 11% market growth in 2019 and double digit percentage growth of...

Let down by UAE firm, Pakistan seeks two LNG cargoes

Very few things to add to this good analytical post. My only comment would be that even assuming transmission cost to be equal, LNG needs to be regasified before it can be used, unlike Iranian gas which can be fed directly into the gas pipeline. Can't say for sure how much it costs in...

Let down by UAE firm, Pakistan seeks two LNG cargoes

Dear Niaz sir, I will highly appreciate your perspective in view of contracted volumes. PSO signed in Dec 2015, a 5 year term contract with Gunvor for supply of 0.75mtpa at 13.37 slope for delivery of total 60 cargoes (1 cargo/ month or 12 cargoes/ year). This contract was recently concluded...

Let down by UAE firm, Pakistan seeks two LNG cargoes

All including PTI stalwarts and the NAB who had been claiming that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi signed a stupid high priced 15 years contract and cheated Pakistan out of billions of dollars because LNG prices had touched temporarily touched rock bottom due to a sudden lowering of demand should now take...

    Whatever

I had my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday. Happy to report no side effects except a slightly sore left shoulder which has now improved. I recall having a more severe reaction from the Typhoid jab. Hence all those members who are offered a jab please take it without worry.
