It doesnt matter if the FOC is delayed as the order for 20 copies of IOC standard needs to be manufactured first which will take atleast till end off 2017. So if FOC is achieved by end of 2016 also its should be fine. anyway HAL cannot manufacture FOC standard copies till they finish the first...
Python is AAM and near BVR, Tejas is also integrated with R73. And BVR for now will be I-Derby ER ( around 100 KM range). Astra is stll in development and will take some time for refinements. Once that's done it will also be mated with Tejas.

It doesn't matter as the FOC date has no impact on delivery schedule to IAF as they'll be receiving 20 IOC MK1 first, so ADA/HAL have all the time like 2 years to take care of refinements, e.g. the weight of the fighter and drag can be further reduced.
Got this link while surfing, Looks pretty cool if its done. With such performance boast over Derby, LCA will be able to handle all its opponents,

PS read the last line is article.
I think this is the actual pic of Ghatak ( also posted by Kaku). The one posted along with article seems to be previous attempt of AK clone. but the new one seems to be good.
Agreed.
But GOI/IAF usually keeps all numbers separately so that the figure looks small, in this case the $12 billion is from French media so I still believe the $12 billion is flyaway cost and as you said $3-4 billion for training+ weapons etc. and the life cycle costs were always speculated...
The $12 billion might be flyaway cost which means cost of each bird little less than $100 million which was our guess and I believe the lifetime cost might be $20 billion which I think is also fine.
any thoughts

Thanks
Well The news itself states it could be Su30MKI ==>SU35S
"The Defense News report did not specify the details of the differences between the Su-35 and the Su-35S. However, a Chinese military expert cited by the Global Times stated that the fifth-generation fighter will likely be based on...
Thanks. The Range looks slightly misleading as A 120 C7 is supposed to have a range of 120 KM, C5 is 105, Mica is supposed to have a range equal to Derby which is 65 KM. The Range mentioned here is engagement range?
Tx for clarification.
So there are no Astra - 1 and Astra - 2 versions. There is single version which has a range of 80Km (Max). If true then its good as Vanilla R-77 is 80KM class missile with a weight of 175 Kgs.
Again the news is confusing on its range at one place it states as 80 and at the end says 100km and in most of the other sources it states 'The current version will have max range of 40 and later version will be 80'. So what is its max range at altitude ( Max altitude).
Any one has this info? (...
My Understanding to this news is India wants to study 35S and devise plan to implement the same or better in Super MKI. And as usual our journos jumbled and made a new news out of this.
Just a guess... :)
Well - Prasun to some extent tried to explain this by saying IAF wants a Fighter which can deliver load in Terrain hugging mode which apart from M-2000, to some extent Jaguar can do (Presently in inventory). Mig-35, SU are basically Air Superiority fighters and can fulfill this job only...
Probably IAF is struck with Add-ons which they themselves do not want, due to which all aircraft including Tejas is getting delayed. (i.e. Know how, industrial adv etc).
At the end of the day IAF seems to be the loser.
