Is it CZ vs. FB Radom (Poland)?

    IDEAS 2018 - Updates & Discussions

Good news, Quwa got media accreditation for IDEAS 2018 a few weeks ago, so we'll be there on the 28th and 29th. Plans are underway to attend IDEF 2019 and the 2019 Dubai Air Show as well. Depending on availability, we might try squeezing in another trade show between IDEF (April/May) and Dubai...

Pakistan’s T129 deliveries ready despite delays

@Oscar as noted earlier, the T129s are coming off lines meant for the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). So it seems we're basically paying for them via layaway terms (cash on hand). It also seems that we'll basically get the same variant being inducted by Turkey in that time period (shared overhead...

AH-1 Z Designated for No 31 PAA Squadron

Thus far it seems the Trump doctrine is just to take things ridiculously far with everyone, and in turn, give the next administration (or maybe Trump's next 4 years) tons of leverage to exact new US gains (by 'giving back' what they had taken away in the first 4 years, i.e., not give anything...

AH-1 Z Designated for No 31 PAA Squadron

@Oscar Alan Warnes said Bell/Textron is just storing the AH-1Zs until the current Trump-Pakistan tiff ends, which it anticipates it will in the foreseeable future. But I think the bigger story is that PA, PN and PAF don't want to spend national funds on US arms at all (i.e., only use US aid).

    PAF at Zhuhai Airshow 2018

IMO investors would be interested in the JF-17 and, to a greater degree, Project Azm. With those two (esp. the latter) you have the prospect of securing business for 100+ fighters over a 10-15 year period plus support and maintenance. The issue with that is if our stakeholders are comfortable...

    PAF at Zhuhai Airshow 2018

I think a K-8 SLEP + upgrade will happen, eventually, but I think they'd be more interested in emulating the L-39NG approach (new parts, new - but same rated -- engine, new avionics, etc) than going the Hawk development route.

    PAF at Zhuhai Airshow 2018

IMO ... it'd be between the Aero L-159 (Czech Republic) and BAE Hawk Mk. 165 (UK). @Oscar @Horus PS: lol

Cybersecurity firm claims to have found evidence of a Cyber attack against Pakistan

Don't know much about micro-level SIGINT; for good reason, procurement in that regard tend to fall under the table and out of view. I do know there are Canadian companies that export that stuff, but to whom, they won't say, but they definitely aren't only NATO or big time US allies.

Cybersecurity firm claims to have found evidence of a Cyber attack against Pakistan

My old man is actually a cyber security expert. In the old days, the idea (to stop any kind of espionage) was to avoid doing anything stupid, e.g., when on assignment overseas, don't engage with the locals (esp. women); don't open suspicious looking packages (esp. when you're not expecting...

SAC - FC-31 Grey Falcon Stealth aircraft for PAF : Updates & Debate

I think the FC-31 as-is will be offered for export, the PLAN would get a very different sub-variant for both carrier ops and other improvements. Basically, the J-10A (FC-20) vs. J-10B/C story.

JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

So there are two issues: (1) the existing weapons inventory and (2) getting a new weapons package. There's no point in writing-off (1), so the existing Block-I/IIs should get a Chinese AESA radar. Full-stop. The question is really on (2), i.e. for future JF-17s starting with Block-III. Be it...

JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

1-2 years ago AVIC officials told Alan Warnes that it was unlikely that China and Italy/UK would work together in pairing the SD-10 to the Vixen. So you either go all in with China, go all in with Western COTS, or make your own stuff and be trusted by outside partners to keep their stuff (e.g...

JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

The original manufacturer of the JHMCS-series is Elbit in Israel. So if the PAF is looking to get the JHMCS, then it'll have to work through an intermediary, e.g., the US, UK, Italy or Brazil. It's plausible if the PAF had asked Leonardo to basically provide an end-to-end electronics solution...

    New Modified Z-10ME Attack Helicopter

@Oscar @wanglaokan I might have missed it, but did CAIC or AVIC showcase a millimeter-wave radar with the Z-10ME? Seeing that the T129 is handling high-altitude ops, I imagine the Z-10ME should be fine for anti-armour & anti-infantry ops as-is, but a MMW radar would be key. I suspect if the...

JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

This combined with the KLJ-7A (and, ideally, the air-cooled AESA radar for the Block-I/II) plus C-802 AShM, REK PGB, YJ-9E (analogous to Brimstone), LD-10 ARM, a HOBS AAM and 90-100+ km BVRAAM would make for a very good package.

JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

@Oscar @JamD this looks like an ALCM (intake?) ... could basically be the 'Ra'ad Lite' analogue (might need to open-up its payload options, shouldn't be restricted to bomblets but offer HE and Penetration rounds too).

Pakistan Navy seeking new jet power maritime patrol aircraft MPA

As said earlier, the Saab Swordfish on the Bombardier Global 6000 has 2/3 acquisition cost and 1/2 the life-cycle cost of the Boeing Poseidon. So we're looking at a purchase cost of around $80 m per Swordfish MPA and around $140-180 m per Swordfish (vs. $250-300+ m per Poseidon) with spare...

The work for the construction of 4 Corvette which will be supplied for the Pakistani navy, underway

Once the Ada and 054A come, I think the F-22P will stick out like a sore thumb. It's neither as good as the other two, but it requiring as many people to run it as the 054A (and a lot of diesel, though maybe not as much). The 2020s will be key, if the PN doesn't opt to update the F-22Ps next...
