Can China break the military aircraft engine bottleneck?

Why is there actually a doubt? "Engine bottleneck" is far from the only bottleneck in building a state of the art fighter jet. There are a lot number of them and engine bottleneck is pretty much the only one left. If the other dozen bottlenecks didn't stop the Chinese, why would this one be...

What can South Asia learn from East Asia?

Erm, the British did a lot of damage in colonial era, but not in this particular case. India subcontinent was fractured to begin with. The British actually helped the region to achieve a sense of unity. The British's last meddling in region was the partition of Pakistan and India, but if you...

Korea's Export Engine Slips into Reverse as Japan Steps on the Gas

Korea losing steam is kinda expected. A major problem with South Korea is that it economic structure is way too concentration on a few sectors. While it is understandable they did that because they only have so much land and population, it still means that if they have a slump in a few sectors...

The Chinese 'Century' Is Already Over

It is pretty much expected. Or rather, the investment and trade agreement itself is sufficient progress. There really isn't much issue that is immediately resolvable between India and China. India isn't a player in South China sea. So nothing tangible there. The border issues won't be resolved...

German rail giant mulls buying trains from China: report

Like I said, no matter how much self-improvement you do, ultimately a company is dependent on market. When the market is not good well, the company suffers. That's just how it is. It is still perform well comparing the others. I have no comment on GE since I don't know much about their performance.

German rail giant mulls buying trains from China: report

To be honest, I would imagine that distance to be pretty big to start with, big enough to accommodate 500kph because allocate more space between two tracks is a rather easy task in comparison to the construct of the tracks itself.

Philippine Navy adds first oil tanker to fleet (Made in China)

    菲律宾是给推出来的而已,正主是美国。没菲律宾还会有别的。又不是什么威胁。卖它艘油船有啥影响?中国海警的万吨舰巡逻时菲律宾的船多当会拉拉队? Interesting to know.

German rail giant mulls buying trains from China: report

My entire family work for Siemens. My parents are both consultant engineers. Myself is also about to enter their employment once I finish my Ph.D. I am well aware how Siemens is doing. As far as company goes, Siemens is definitely a good performing one, but just like any company, there is only...

German rail giant mulls buying trains from China: report

Yes, the current speed is 300kph with a planned speed upgrade to 350 kph. As for the cost for upgrade, no idea. Like I said, I am not a railway engineer and there has not been a documented case for such upgrade, so I can't really say. Though from engineering perspective, these lines would stay...

German rail giant mulls buying trains from China: report

Okay, I just took time to check some documents. I was wrong. The design limit of the Beijing-Shanghai line is actually 380 kph. So if in the future, the line wants to run 500 kph trains, it is very possible that the line needs to be upgrade in some ways. Edit: I am not sure what kind of upgrade...

China's Premier Li sees growth of 7.0 percent in 2015

I would argue that they are inter-related. For example, industrial automation is large factor contributing into raise the total productivity, yet it can also be argued to be part of the capital stock. There are also other type of infrastructure investment, such as building schools for educating...

German rail giant mulls buying trains from China: report

The current high speed rail (in range of 250kph to 400 kph) uses the same rail. (Different from regular rail). I do remember reading somewhere the current ones can support 500 kph trains as well. Mostly because the 500 kph technology is already in development when the current generation is...

Make it so: Chinese building looks just like Star Trek's USS Enterprise

You do realize, fan of star wars, this means war! :enjoy: One of the commenter mentioned that the build looks more like Voyager and I do agree. It looks closer to an Intrepid class starship than any of the Enterprises. (No less awesome though)

'I'm really scared': Miss World Canada says father threatened in China

She probably read it in the novel and doesn't really have a firm understanding of how technology works. The whole "secret police" thing probably came out of a cold war era novel depicting USSR.

'I'm really scared': Miss World Canada says father threatened in China

Pfff, if she was in support of cults like Falun Gong, I am not surprise that Chinese people took a dim view of her. Though her story is probably a fabrication, for example, she apparently believe it is the work of "secret security forces". While China does have intelligence service for national...

China's Premier Li sees growth of 7.0 percent in 2015

The third part is mostly an infrastructure issue. Both in term of physical assets and things like forming domestic research base. Basically, the South American countries had a rapid increase in personal wealth per person, but very little into infrastructure, long term R&D and its support. This...

China's Premier Li sees growth of 7.0 percent in 2015

I think there are two key factor in maintaining 7% growth the coming decade. The first one is internal market expansion. This is a period of rather great demographic change because the 50s generation started retiring from 2005 (In China, women retire at 55 and men at 60 for many professions)...
