DUBAI: Pakistani cricket team wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider went missing from hotel room in Dubai this morning, Geo News reported Monday.

The wicketkeeper Haider is missing from his hotel room since 6am this morning.

Sources said he was last seen at 630am while leaving his room.

The wicketkeeper said in his Facebook post he was leaving cricket as someone gave him bad message on losing in last match.

The wicketkeeper words are: ‘leaving pakistan cricket because get bad msg fr 1 man fr lose the match in last game.’

Also, a message from Zulqarnain’s mobile received on cellphone of a friend and Geo News correspondent Sohail Imran, said he is leaving the cricket as someone is giving him murder threats.

The SMS received on Sohail Imran’s mobile phone said, ‘Match haar jao’ (Lose match.)

In his second MSM, the cricketer said he is leaving for England; however, this claim sounds absurd, as team management has passports of all the cricketers.

Talking to Geo News, Zulqarnain’s brother Aqil Haider said his brother talked to the family last night, urging all to pray to Allah for his brother.

Omar Akmal will play as wicketkeeper in today’s match.

Team management announced three changes in the squad for today’s match. Zulqarnain Haider’s name is not included. Muhammed Yousuf, who flew shortly to Dubai, has been included in the squad for strengthening batting line.

A Source said Shahid Aslam saw the wicketkeeper leaving his room at around 6am; he intercepted Haider, who told he is leaving to receive his relatives and would be back after some time. However, he was not seen around again.

Another shocking news is that Mohammad Yousuf is playing instead of Asad shafiq, Shazaib in place of Imran Farhat and Umer Akmal in place of Zulqarnain Haider !

Zulqarnain Haider reportedly goes missing

Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider has reportedly gone missing and did not arrive with the team at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium for the deciding ODI against South Africa.

PCB officials were unavailable for comment on the reasons for Haider's non-arrival. Team manager Intikhab Alam confirmed to reporters that he hadn't arrived but refused to say any more. A cryptic message left as a status update on the player's Facebook page said: "leaving pakistan cricket because get bad msg fr 1 man fr lose the match in last game."

A TV reporter for Geo said that he had received a similar text message from Haider earlier on Monday and also an indication that he might fly to the UK. It is not clear whether Haider has left the UAE because, generally, the passports of players are kept with management officials.

Television channels spoke to Haider's relatives, including his brother Aqil, but they weren't aware of his whereabouts. Aqil said he had spoken to his brother on Sunday night but was given no indication of his actions. As a result of the confusion, Pakistan announced their XI for the final game early and made three changes; Umar Akmal, Shahzaib Hasan and surprisingly, Mohammad Yousuf, came into the side. Akmal will, in all likelihood, take over Haider's role. Yousuf only arrived in Dubai yesterday, after recovering from an abductor strain, and wasn't expected to take part in the ODIs at all.

Haider's brief international career has not lacked for incident. Though he had played a Twenty20 international for Pakistan - against South Africa - in 2006-07, he made his Test debut only earlier this year. He replaced Kamran Akmal for the second Test against England this summer, and made a fighting, widely-lauded 88 in the second innings. He picked up a finger injury during the game and flew back soon after, missing the rest of the tour. He did indicate at the time that he was unhappy at being sent back so quickly, though the issue did not go much further. He was selected again for the current series and has figured in the headlines again, on and off the field. Haider was fined by the PCB on Sunday for breaking team curfew during the ODI series against South Africa.

The last match that his Facebook status seems to refer to is the fourth ODI of the series, another closely-fought thriller, in which Haider's unbeaten 19 took Pakistan to victory with one wicket and one ball to spare.

WTF... What the hell is going in Pakistan cricket. After all the crap of spot fixing in which we lost our top players now our players are getting kidnapped and threatened. This is a joke or what. What the hell PCB and ICC are doing.... This is a shame really.

ISLAMABAD: Local media reports say Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider is missing from the team hotel in the United Arab Emirates.

“I can’t make much comment on this, but I can only confirm that Haider did not come with the team to the ground and we are looking for him,” team manager Intikhab Alam said told reporters.

The 24-year-old Haider was fined 500 dirhams (136 dollars) on Sunday after he broke curfew hours imposed by the team management.

Geo television reports Monday that Haider did not travel with his teammates to the Dubai International Cricket Ground where Pakistan is scheduled to play the fifth and final one-day international against South Africa. It also says Haider is not in the team hotel.

The television report showed an image purported to be Haider’s facebook page on which he wrote that he is ”leaving Pakistan cricket because (he) got bad message from one man to lose the last game.”

Haider scored the winning run in the fourth ODI against South Africa on Friday to clinch a one-wicket victory for Pakistan that leveled the series 2-2. – Agencies
