ZTE announces success in making 1st 5G phone call

Source: Xinhua Published: 2018/4/3

Chinese telecom equipment company ZTE Group has announced its success in making the first phone call enabled by 5G technologies as smartphone makers scramble to work on 5G in hopes of applying this next-generation mobile communication technology to their products as soon as possible, Tuesday's China Daily reported.

"The success moves China a step forward in developing 5G technologies, which will accelerate its speed in commercializing 5G," Xiang Ligang, a telecom expert and chief executive of telecom industry website Cctime, was quoted by the newspaper as saying. The call was one of the world's first using 5G technology, according to Xiang.

The 5G phone call, as a collaboration between ZTE and China Mobile Communications Corp, was based on ZTE's end-to-end system of 5G, which will be taken for commercial use. It also follows the latest standard of 3GPP, a body that governs global cellular standards, according to the report.

The move comes as China evolves from being a follower into a pioneer in the global telecom arena, experts said. The country is expected to commercialize 5G by 2020 and become the world's largest 5G market by 2025, the newspaper said.

Just so that people know, ZTE uses a Qualcomm modem. It doesn't make its own chips. And modem is one of the main components in telecom.

Just so that people know, You brownie know nothing about telecommunication industry.

Standardization allow different makes and people to roam and freely switch between provider. A huge benefit to consumer.

So stop writing dumb comments on industry you have no clue on.

Just so that you know, you are a pretentious, strawmanning person, who can't talk straight.

When did I comment on Standardization?

I just said that ZTE's so called "end to end" solution, is not really that indigenous because it uses Qualcomm's modem which is one of the core components of any telecom infrastructure.

Now tell me, am I right or no?

You brownies are so dumb.

End to End doesnt mean you cannot use components that you didnt developed.

So what if its uses Qualcomm modem. Even that useless Arjunk tank utilizes MTU engine but Indians insist that its indigenous.

This is great demonstration of ZTE solution. It shows that its design works. Unlike SP2012 prides itself to have a worldclass 'IT industry' that doesnt even participate in ecosystem of high end IC design or telecommunication industry.

The only company in the world right now and the future that will provide complete end-to-end 5G commercialization products (network, modem, antenna) is Huawei. So I'm not that worry about ZTE. They are a little brother of Huawei. They really don't have to buy Qualcomm modem at all. They can ask big brother. But now Huawei is expanding globally so they are very sensitive about sharing their technology even to little local brothers. How I know so much, you may ask? I'm a Huawei employee! LOL

Again, yes, Huawei seems to be the only one that can provide real end to end service here. But we are talking here about ZTE only. And this news is heavily distorted, because most people will interpret this news as if ZTE is leading in all aspects of 5G which is untrue.

Also, Huawei while well ahead in the base station game, seems to be right now behind Qualcomm in the modem game. But I'm sure they will catch up.

The article did not state whether or not its indigenous. And whether it is or it isnt is irrelevant.

Its a working demonstration.

What makes you think Huawei is behind in the modem game. Do you even know the industry? Or Indians at Bangalore have a better solution than the both of them.

Its your thick indian skull that is having issue with the article.

In phone call, ZTE dials up 5G success
China Daily, April 3, 2018

Chinese telecom company ZTE Group announced on Monday that it has succeeded in making the first phone call enabled by 5G technologies as Chinese smartphone makers scramble to work on 5G in hopes of applying this next-generation mobile communication technology to their products as soon as possible.

The move comes as China evolves from being a follower into a pioneer in the global telecom arena, experts said. The country is expected to commercialize 5G by 2020 and become the world's largest 5G market by 2025.

"The success moves China a step forward in developing 5G technologies, which will accelerate its speed in commercializing 5G," said Xiang Ligang, a telecom expert and chief executive of telecom industry website Cctime, adding that the call was one of the world's first using 5G technology.

The 5G phone call, as a collaboration between ZTE and China Mobile Communications Corp, was based on ZTE's end-to-end system of 5G, which will be taken for commercial use. It also follows the latest standard of 3GPP, a body that governs global cellular standards.

"Compared with 4G and 3G, calls enabled by 5G generate better quality," Xiang said.

China has gained momentum during the process of 5G development. It was reported recently that Chinese telecom carriers are likely to be issued 5G licenses in the second half of next year at the earliest. China will be among the first countries to issue 5G licenses.

In the past, China lagged behind other countries in issuing 4G and 3G licenses. But with 5G, the nation has already played an important role in finalizing the global standard and raced ahead in research and development.

The company invested 20 billion yuan ($3.2 billion) last month on a 5G product base in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, to develop the technology and devices.

Shenzhen-based ZTE makes China's first 5G call

(chinadaily.com.cn)Updated: 2018-04-04

Shenzhen's famous telecommunications and IT company ZTE Corporation announced its success on making China's first telephone call based on 5G technology on April 2.

The first 5G call was made by ZTE and China Mobile Guangdong Branch and it meets the standards set by standardization group 3GGP.

The success marked the beginning of a joint project launched by the two aforementioned parties to conduct outdoor testing for commercial-use 5G technology.

In 2018, more than 150 5G base stations will be built in Shenzhen and Guangzhou and in Shenzhen, a range of important testing will be carried out for the construction of 5G network.

Currently, China is leading the way in 5G development and mapping out 5G commercial use and the country's three major telecommunication operators are busy in carrying out 5G experiments in many big cities to ensure that 5G telecommunication is ready for commercial use by 2020.
