Technical details about the new Zastava Arms Modular Automatic Assault Rifle unveiled at Partner 2017, the International Fair of Armaments and Defense Equipment in Belgrade, Serbia.

During the Yugoslav Wars of 1991 to 1995, the United Nations placed economic sanctions on the import and export of weapons from Yugoslavia, production slowed as a result. In 1999 the factory was damaged by NATO bombing. In 2005 Zastava Arms underwent restructuring. The same year, a memorandum of understanding was signed with Remington Arms to export hunting and sporting guns to the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Now, the Serbian firearms manufacturer Zastava Arms has developed a wide range of small weapons that are exported to over 40 countries in the world.

For the 6.5x39mm caliber, the design of the weapon is based on the M05 series with a large fire selector located on the right side of the rifle, it acts as a dust-cover and prevents the charging handle from being pulled fully to the rear when it is on safe. Main components of the weapon are in polymer and aluminum.

The 6.5x39mm Zastava modular automatic assault rifle can use magazine of 20 or 30 rounds. It has a barrel length of 415mm and a total weight without magazine of 3.7 kg.

The design of the 7.62x39mm caliber model is more similar to European assault rifle with cooking handle at the right side and a fire selector with three positions. It has a barrel of 415mm as the 6.5 mm caliber variant but it uses magazine of 20 rounds for a weight of 3.66 kg.

Both weapons are fitted with folding stock and Picatinny rails mounted on top and bottom parts of the handguard which can be used to mount Red Dot sight or sniper scope. The front sides of the weapon are also fitted with Picatinny rails which can be used to put different types of accessories as flash light.

The Zastava modular automatic assault rifle has a changeable barrel which offers the possibly to quickly change the purpose of the weapon. The barrel is changed by using the lock on the receiver. The weapon can also be fitted with different barrel length to transform the rifle for various use and according the combat situations.

Serbia is the first country to adopt the 6.5 and made a modular weapon switching between 6.5 and x39. very good forward thinking.

I wonder if the new rifle will be trialed in Pakistan!!!

7.62 X 39 may come for trials to replace Type 56 but not 6.5 X 39. Not even in million years

. . .
Pakistan is simply not interested. We are fully satisfied with 7.62 X 51
Hazrat we have 556, x39 and x51 in service!

Now Hazrat 6.5 is based on 7.62x39 and it offers better ballistics than both (5.56 + 7.62x39). So if a round that has better ballistics than two rounds which are in use by Pakistan one in limited capacity 5.56 and large capacity x39.

what is the issue with even talking about it Hazrat?

Issue is when Pakistan Army is not interested in going for a new caliber why waste our time and energy in discussing it.

Hazrat you are not in the armed forces nor are you in the decision making team! But you are so sure that it has no future is beyond understanding. If this is the case you will say that coal locomotives are enough and there is no need for diesel locomotives as it has no chance in possibly million years.

No but I fully sure about Armed Forces thought on caliber this caliber is most suited for USA which doesn't want 5.56 X 45 but also seems to be scared to go for 7.62 X 51 because considers over kill so they may end up with this one. But as for Pakistan dude even our Police Guys many times carry G3 specially in operations which we did against choto gang. In other words we love over kill. And Pakistan is more than satisfied with the calibers it's using. What we are looking is finding Good Assault Rifles not new calibers.

Hazrat x39 is a old calibre now and so is x51. Weapons change and so do their ammunition. What if Pakistan decides to follow the global trend which will happen! Hazrat there is a huge consideration on calibre and rifles globally. either new rifles are being adopted or new improvements of the old rifles are being sought after. then it will be calibre change. Serbia has taken the first step others will follow. Things either happen suddenly or they happen gradually.

Global trend right now is shifting back to X 51 not going for new caliber

So the companies spending money for R&D to develop future ammunition are idiots? It's done because there is a demand.

I like the 6.5, but it'll never be adopted because of logistics.
