Ajmer sharif awaits Sarabjit's sister to untie the threat of mannat(wish)
JAIPUR: After the path for freedom of Indian national Sarabjit Singh, who was on the death row for 20 years on bombing charges was cleared by Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday, the Khadims(Servers) at the sufi shrine of Khawaja Moinuddhin Chisthi are expecting the arrival of his sister Dalbir Kaur.
Kaur had visited the sufi shrine on April, 7, just a day before the arrival of Pakistani president, Asif Ali Zardari. During that visit, she had prayed for release of her brother and as a tradition she had tied a string as mannat(wish) in the courtyard of the shrine. It is believed that the thread is supposed to be untied after one's prayer is answered; the Khadims of the shrine are expecting her arrival.
"She had wished for the release of her brother. Though she did not meet the president as the administration disallowed her entry, her memorandum was, however, handed over to the Pakistani delegation. Now, when Pakistan has said that he (Sarabjit Singh) would be released, she should come to untie the thread," said a Khadim at the shrine.
Many of the Khadims are even expecting Kaur to bring her brother along with her.
Khadims at the shrine are also associating the release of Sarabjit with the release of Pakistani virologist Khalil Chisthi from Ajmer jail since three days after the visit of Zardari, the Supreme Court ordered for the release.
"Since our country had shown a nice gesture by releasing Khalil Chisthi, the Pakistani counterparts have just reciprocated," said Sahir Chisthi, a server at the shrine.
Many people welcomed the step taken by the Pakistan and said that the sufi shrine of Ajmer sharif is been able to bridge the gap between the two countries and actually it has played a catalyst for the release of Pakistani and Indian national lodged in either jails. "It is of course the outcome of Pakistani president's visit to the shrine," said Qutabuddhin Saki, another server at the shrine.
It may be recalled that two letters addressed to Zardari by Syed Muhammad Yamin Hashmi, Khadim who attended Sabajit's sister at the sufi shrine on her visit to Khawaja Moinuddhin Chisthi, Ajmer and the chief cleric of Delhi's Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari were attached to the mercy petition sent to Zardari.
