A Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, who was seen in a video taken during the funeral of outfit commander Sabzar Bhat last week, has surrendered before authorities in Kashmir, the police said on Wednesday.

Investigations revealed that he was Danish Ahmed, a resident of Handwara in north Kashmir studying at the Doon P G College of Agriculture Science and Technology, Dehradun.

"A few days back, video clips of an unidentified terrorist wearing a battle pouch with a grenade were in circulation on social media.




"These video clips were clicked in Tral area by local media-persons during the funeral of self-styled terrorist commander Sabzar Bhat," a police spokesperson said.

Danish was also found to have been involved in stone-pelting incidents in Handwara during the 2016 turmoil. "He was picked up by the police but was let off after counselling in view of his career," the spokesperson said.

After Danish's involvement in terrorism was established, security forces got in touch with his parents and impressed upon them the need to counsel their son to surrender.

"His parents were convinced that if he surrenders, he would be dealt with fairly under law. Efforts made by security forces yielded results and Danish surrendered before police and 21 Rashtriya Rifles of army in Handwara," he said.

During questioning, Danish revealed that he had been in touch with terrorists in south Kashmir on social media and was persuaded to join them.

"He was tasked by Hizbul Mujahideen to activate some local youth in north Kashmir and make the region as terrorism-infested as the southern part of Kashmir.

"However, after spending a few days with the terrorists in south Kashmir, he realised the futility of their militant ranks," the spokesperson said.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered against Danish, he said. His case is also being considered under the J&K Surrendered Militants Rehabilitation Policy.

Kashmir has the highest Muslim population in India and ergo Pakistan claims its rights on it while it can NOT do so in case of Rajasthan, Punjab and other border states.

You are judged by what you do in your present and not by what you did in your past. India has on many occasions proposed LOC as IB but Pakistan army isn't interested. If peace was the aim then PAK would have agreed long back or atleast after getting 90k men returned back home.

My govt has not backed Kashmiri militants since 2001. Which is a shame... as for pandits, even today they aren't targeted, and a lakh or so migrated due to their own will.

Which is not true, Kasmiri militants do not grow Type56's rpk's, and Rpg's in their apple orchards. Neither do their sat phones appear out of prayers, you provide full logistical support to these militants. Even on a sting operation, it was evident that ISI and Pak based jihadi groups are pumping in millions to seperatist political outfits like hurriat and JKLF. And no, Pandits did not migrate due to thier own will, they were butchered in the valley by the groups that Pakistan trained and propped up in the late 80's.

And these were the same people who took part in Kashmiri genocide in 47. Do you know a million Kashmiri Muslims were displaced in 47 alone? Quarter of a million were butchered under the personal supervision of hari Singh with covert support of Indian state and princely states of India?

Civil liberties are the first casualty in a Warzone, Pakistan turned Kashmir into a warzone with it's actions in 47, 65, and 80's. India responded. You have to take equal blame for loss of civil liberties and human rights violation, your actions warranted deployment of armed forces in J&K. especially in the valley, why are such reports not in Ladakh or Jammu. Een Punjab went through insurgency, today there is no loss of civil liberties in Punjab. If Pakistan will impose an insurgency, India will deploy troops, its cause and effect.

I doubt it. But even so people die in wars or civil wars.
