Zaheer Ahmad Babar is involved in R&D so apparently the new chief is and was involved in Research & Development of different projects. Appointment of new chief is done to give continuity to the on going JF-17 program development, Project Azm, weapon development, AESA radar development, SAM R&D and white body aircraft and new war doctrine for PAF. New platforms need new doctrines. Vice chief will control the execution of new war doctrines. It seems to be a well thought decision.

I think the anxiousness people are feeling is not why Zaheer Ahmad has been made ACM. It's more related to what Haseeb Paracha did wrong as to not being considered for the post. There is difference between the two thoughts.
Haseeb Paracha has been the poster boy of PAF throughout his career. Showed his mettle every time he was tested. Never fell short. So why not him? That's the reason for the unease.

The more i think about AM Haseeb paracha was a sure bet to become the chief, but for the screw-up because of which he was moved to logistics. He turned that screwup around by leading from the air and delivering a very successful operation swift retort. and for that as a consolation, he has been appointed as VCAS.

The new Chief by looking at his career profile seems like a desk jock of sorts and if that is the case then they are good during normal circumstances but these r some very extraordinary times we live in.

Our new air chief is from research department and is keen to introduce AI in our systems. good appointment. Everyome should stick together and make this airforce more dangerous to our enemies.

No. PAF does not work like this. If it did the senior ranks would be full of incompetant officers.

AM Haseeb was moved from operations to logistics post 27 feb. That in itself is a downgrade on account of the ACM/ air staff displeasure.
But it could also be that he had served his term and was posted out, so as to give someone else a better shot at the top spot.
The outgoing chief has a big say in who becomes the next chief as the PM asks for his advice in such matters.

The real issue was Haseeb Paracha was on 4th in seniority list. Air Force only has 7 AM rank officers. Going for fourth was nearly impossible.

when ever some one become CJCSC , Army Chief , Air Chief , Naval Chief in Pakistan , no matter how much time HE got till retirement he will be there for 3 full Years atleast ( if no extension ) .
