Your (realistic) military shopping list were you in an omnipotent position within the MoD

Hey guys, I had nothing better to do (well I do but this was more fun ) so I thought about what I would do was I was in a position implement my purchases and policies/strategies I have kept it to what I feel is conceivable, affordable and practical.
Indian Army


-M777 ULH:

-Nexter CAESAR 155/52- ca; MGS on the AL platform with L&T as the prime contractor:

-Nexter TRAJAN 155/52-cal towed artillery system (for commonality with the CAESAR). IF DRDO can prove their up-gunned FH-77 52-cal Bofors then go for that.

-US MARPAT family of camo (the IA is apparently set to induct a new camo under FINSAS anyway), until now the IA hasn't had a common desert/jungle/arctic family of camo- the MARPAT is proven and effective and ticks all the boxes

-F-INSAS to be fast-tracked

-ARX-160 for elite/select units (not SOFs):

-DRDO's MCIWS to replace the INSAS and Sten gun for all the IA:

Of course all of the above is mostly from my own fantasies although parts of the above are most certainly like to be seen in the future with the Indian military but probably not in the holistic way I have outlined. Of course this is very much a superficial outline focusing only mostly the "sexy" big-ticket items. Additionally I've kept the time frame to now-2020.


I would very much be interest to see your lists ladies and gentlemen but lets keep it practical and within the realms of possibility...

Fast tracking of all indeginous products & more investment in developing R&D facilities in the country.it is very said a country of 1.2 billion people cannot manufacture a 20 dearer plane

all the jawans wil get latest tevor-21 bullpup rifles with night vision as primarry wepon and beretta 9mm as side arm & one barret 50 cal + 2 latest machine guns with same ammo as ther tevror 21 per 10 men squad

at least 500 ceaser 155 X 52 cal arty guns

at least 1200 latest T90 MS tanks + 200 T90 chasis based panister anty aircraft &anty missile systems + 400 TATA made krystal (tracked version) IFVs with Spike ER ATGMs

at least 60 (for army) & 40 (for air force) apaches & LCHs in 1:3 ratio

NAVY

at least 20 dolphin calss (with AIP) subs

at least 10 kokotta 2 calss destroyers & 30 anty sub and air defnce stealth frigates

at least 10 MRISTRAL calss LPDs

at least 2 more IAC-2 calss ACs(with rafale M X36 & K31 helix "AESA" X 6 + KA-52K X 10 each )

at least 40 P8I with built in AWACs

AIR FORCE

at least

8 squads of FGFA

5 Squads of PAKFA

6 Squads of F/A-18 E-F super hornet

The CAESAR is a great weapon and suits well for the now developing roads of NE & NW India. I would not focus that much so soon on the infantry "super" rather than just improving his survivability up north and increasing support potential. While the video may have been a mockery as such of the Chinese patrol trying to break into Indian lines, it tells you exactly the sort of Horde India is to expect. In that terrain, quick and Precise Arty is going to be the name of the game. Light fire support in the form of Better Mortars and HE/Frag guided weaponry is going to be needed.

My priority list :
1. Tata Kestrel
2. Fast tracking FINSAS programme.
3. Kalyani Bharat 52 artillery + few Danush artillery guns for filling the gap fast.
4. Order 7 C-130Js to complete a squadron of 12 aircraft.
5. Accepting DCNS offer of 2 off the shelf Scorpene Subs.
6. ATAS sonar for Kolkata & Shivalik class ships.
7. Modern camo uniforms both for Army & Navy.
8. Replacing left hand drive TATRAS with Ashok Leyland Super Stallions.
9. Upgrading all 41 ordnance factories with the help of BAE systems to increase production rate.

NOTE: This is not a complete list but priority list.

1. Off the shelf purchase of Scorpenes/Amur.
2. Urgent procurements for NMRH, possibly through FMS (if opportunity presents itself)
3. Purchase of Heavy Torpedoes for Sub Fleet.
4. Fleet Replenishment ships.
5. Integration of LR-SAMs
6. AWE&CS for dedicated Naval usage.

For the IAF:

1. The Rafale deal, no question about it.
2. Indigenous ARMs, LGBs and glide munitions, and Hardened target penetrators..
3. Equivalent to JSTARS, and dedicated SIGINT & ELINT aircrafts, (in addition to the ones in service/about to enter service)
4. Long endurance HALE drones, and armed ones.
5. Very Long range & Over the Horizon radar systems.

For the IA:

1. Upgrade of infantry to F-INSAS standards.
2. Replenishment of ATGM stockpiles to optimum levels.
3. Introduction of Long rod penetrators (AFSFDS) , with penetration 1000mm or greater for MBTs.
4. Setting up of Sniper School.
5. Realisation of IBGs into field formations, with necessary auxiliary assets.
6. Creation (or transformation of infantry divisions) of more Mechanized and motorized divisions,, i.e. increase the highly mobile component of the IA.

I wouldn't get into specifics but my aim would be:-
•Arty guns
•NV equipped force
•better ICV/IFV
•Mini UAVs for platoon level and Javelin and air support on call to make them more lethal
•Better gear and protection for SF and Ghataks.

I have had this argument with a very knowledgeable individual on another forum as to the existence of sniper school in India, and he has pretty much flatly laid out that no such school exists. Given his knowledge and his credibility, I would still stick with his opinion.

I personally would have loved for us to buy another AC for the navy , perhaps the Kuznetsov.
For the Airforce i really would have sealed the rafale fighter deal.
For the Army , it would have to be buy M777 and a few more smersh platforms.
