A Pakistani student from Balochistan has achieved a Grand Winner Award and a Gold Medal in an international computer project competition held to find worlds best young IT wizard.
Waleed Bashir son of Haji Bashir from Khusdar, who is a class 9th student in PakTurk School Quetta won the prize in 1st International Infomatrix Asia and Pacific Project Competition 2013 held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Bashir, 15, developed a project titled, Green Automation to win among 100 projects presented by students of twenty countries including Russia, Azerbaijan, India, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Georgia, Somalia and Ukraine.
He developed an automated system that can control a house office or garden through computer and internet without any human attendant.
Heat, water level, and humidity were controlled through the sensors while energy required to run the system is derived from movable solar panels that follows the direction of sun automatically.
The project which can be used to increase the production of crops in an efficient and economical way without grid electricity quickly caught attention of the judges who declared Bashir winner and he was given 600 dollars additionally as prize.
Commenting on the success, Bashir said that he wanted to serve his largely arid province and wants to turn whole Pakistan fertile.
Honour and pride belongs to my country, my teachers and my parents; carrying high Pakistani flag at the global platform was an honour, the young computer wizard said.
Meanwhile, Federal Secretary Science and Technology Ikhlaq Ahmed Tarar, Secretary BoI Raja Muhammad Abbas, Secretary MoNR&S, Imtiaz Inayat Ellahi, former Secretary IT Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qadir and other officials felicitated the winner and said that Balochistan is a land of fertile minds that can produce wonders if encouraged and patronised.
Government will not only encourage talent but also provide funding and try best to make use of the innovative effort, they said.
The government officials said that PakTurk is serving Pakistan by providing high quality education which is bringing both brotherly nations closer.
MD PakTurk Fasih Celik, Director Education Kamil Ture and Turgut Puyan said that we are promoting Pakistans participation in international competitions to promote excellence, intercultural dialogue and cooperation.
