Older people have always been richer than younger ones – but what has changed is the disparity between the generations. Here, West and East are diverging sharply. What does this mean for the future?

In this programme we look at the changing balance of wealth between young and old, and profile some of the young ultra-wealthy like Suhas Gopinath, a respected CEO while still a teenager. Are our young entrepreneurs the exceptions or do emerging economies really offer better chances to the young?

Born in Beijing, and nurtured by Google, Si Shen had to go overcome many difficulties to ensure the survival of her social mobile gaming company Papaya, but the company now has over 80 million users across the US, Europe and China.

Suhas Gopinath
CEO, and Chairman of Globas Inc
Born in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, Gopinath launched a web site at the age of 14, and incorporated his company the same year, becoming the world’s youngest CEO. Globals Inc has grown from a little over $1,000 revenue in its first year to a multi-million dollar software solutions company.

Ashish Thakkar
Founder of Mara Group
Just 13 when he and his family had to leave everything they had in Africa to escape the Rwandan genocide, Thakkar would go on to found an African conglomerate that includes one of the largest IT companies in Africa. He was recently voted a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
