Gas tariffs in Pakistan have reached a record high, with domestic gas tariffs being increased by 300%.

The price of gas for domestic consumers has been increased by the caretaker government and approved by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.

In four years, the authority will be able to raise Rs117 billion in revenue from domestic users.

The dollar exchange rate increased recently, as did the price of petroleum products. The latest sector to be affected is the gas sector.

This increase will affect domestic users the most. Gas rates in the power sector and other sectors have been increased by 30%.

With an increase of Rs234 per each million British thermal units (mbtu), the new price will be Rs629 per each mmbtu.

The first slab of domestic consumption has been increased by 50% to Rs314. This is the highest increase in the country’s history

In order to prevent gas theft and leaks, companies have been allocated Rs21 billion.

This is nothing more than making preperation for approaching to IMF. I must credit the care taker govt for taking bold steps which no elected government has in Pakistan.

Is better to shut up instead of talking shit. This is not a bold step but failures of the organizations which were politicized by previous governments and now they are putting entire burden on poor people of Pakistan.

Wait for 25th july we will sweep elections and will let you know what bold steps are and how they are taken to bring country on track. In sha Allah

Dependence on Gas can be reduced , if Solar Panels are given under subsidy per home , which can generate electricity to power up a stove for cooking purpose

4 Panel , system can give you 8 hours of electricity

Pakistan should also introduce coal based cooking units

Coal based stove
And ideal solution for local Coal usage

Considering Pakistan has own Coal , Production locally discovered
we should aim to use 50-60% Coal usage

Coal based power plants should also be looked into to create surplus Electricity

Agree this is failed policy of last 5 years. Why they never let the price float with international pricing?

.
Best solution

Tier 1 :
Nuclear Electricity -> Run Electric Stoves

Tier 2: (New POWER SOURCE DISCOVERED IN PAKISTAN)
Coal based Power plants-> Create Electricity -> Run electric Stoves

Tier 3: (New POWER SOURCE DISCOVERED IN PAKISTAN)
Coal based stoves for villages > Buy coal bags and run stoves

Tier 4:
Gas cylinder based stoves

Tier 5:
Solar Panel based energy saving systems , run Electric stoves
Encouraged for all Residential Homes to have 2-3 Solar panels

Tier 6 :
Bio Mass burning i.e Cow dung etc

Tier 7 :
Imported Gas (Should be restricted to Industrial Usage) from which state can generate GDP or revenue. Cases when state spends 1 dollar and generates 100 dollar back

Because we produce our Sui gas in our country and we don't need to price it with international standards.

Unless no multinational is involved you can give it free if you want. But most of time that is not a case.

two points here --
1. You don't have the domestic production capacity to satisfy 100% local demand. You still import lot os natural gas. No increasing price means the government is subsidizing it.
2. For exploration and production, you need multinational companies on-board. They will demand to peg pricing with international market unless GOP is super smart and have an agreement where no company can control pricing. GOP is policy is one of a hurdle to develop more gas fields in Pakistan, especially after two major international arbitration.

This has fingerprint of IMF all over it.Expect electricity charges also to be significantly increased

Sadly, solar tech is too expensive at the moment.

Pakistan domestic capacity if utilized properly is enough to satisfy 100% demand and Pakistan produces more gas than it imports.
No need to take multinational companies on board. Pakistan has state owned companies for this purpose.
