Yahoodi and Hanoodi

while I was going through some threads I came across these words.

"Muslims can never be friends with yahoodis and Hanoodis"

I can guess that they are religions..but which religions they denote among Christians,Jews,Hindus,Atheists..?

Any special reasons for the term "Hanoodi" ..? If it had denoted the Hans of China i could understand the name..but how exactly Hindus became Hanood.?

nopes hanood does not translate to hindus. It refers to some old lost tribe in those time. let me find the link. But some mullahs who are anti indian give this as an explanation for killing hindus and for being tolerant towards them saying that prophet said "Hindus and Jews can never be your friends"

I think yahoodi is the arabic translation of jews. in india also jews are called yahoodi in native language.

Ahl-Yahud = Jewish People
Ahl-Hunud = Hindu people

Yahudi is singular while Yuhud is plural
Hindu is singular while Hunud is plural

Hunoodi is wrong it should be Hindu.

The Holy Qur'an mentions "Yahood and Nasara"

Yahood = Jews
Nasara = Christians

Shor hai ho gayey duniya say Musalman nabood
Hum yeh kehtey hain kay thay bhi kahin Muslim mojud?
Wuza main tum ho Nasara, tou tamaddun main hanud
Ye Musalman hain, jinhain dekh kay sharmain Yahud
Yun tou Syed bhi ho, Mirza bhi ho, Afghan bhi ho
Tum sabhi kuch ho batao tou Musalmaan bhi ho?

Nasara means followers of person from Nazareth. Hadrat Isa (Jesus Christ) was born in Nazareth and his follower were called Nasrani and Nasara is plural form.

Which is referred to Hindus

In "chaste" Urdu these expression are used. So not too many know them. My grandfather hired a Mullah to teach me Arabic, Persian and Urdu when I was young and I had to read many classical works.

Does tamaddun means culture?
what is wuza? is it fashion?

Iqbal is saying that Indian Muslims are are similar to Christians (Nasara) in religion while in culture to Hindus (Hunud). Tamaddun means culture or way of life.
