The difference in the Soviet-US scenario is that, when the Soviets were 'defeated', the groups were under Pakistan's control, & these groups were not attacking Pakistan. That clearly isn't the case today, or won't be the case when the US leaves the region.

i have said this before and will say this again...
PA cannot be penalized for supporting afghan.insurgency against soviets...if they hadnt done that.both pamistan and afghsnistan had been conquered by soviets.
same goes for kashmir..keeping an agressive big bad enemy busy is safe for pakistan.
but i fail to see any reason why PA will support any insurgency in china.

Indeed they are - that is the substance of conspiracy - Like I said with people such yourself, persuaded by an ideology as you are, our brother allies can be rest assured that a repeat is a certainty -- because since a understanding does not exist that such ideologies animate terrorists, we may be assured that neither will action against those whose actions are a expression of that ideology

Again, thoughts are not crimes - humans have 'sinful/illegal thoughts' all the time, it is whether we act on them or not that determines whether crime has been committed.

And pray tell oh 'reader of minds', what 'ideology' have I been persuaded by?

.
I take your point - Are extreme ideas, extremism and extremists linked in any way? If yes, can it be agreed that extremist behavior is the physical manifestation of extremist ideas? Society judges good and bad and right and wrong, in Pakistan, society has judged that extremist ideas are not the sphere of the law - yet other societies see a direct connection between extremist ideas and extremists - indeed the reason why Pakistan produces, whether it trains them or harbors them, is because extremist ideas are held as legitimate, in Pakistan --- so long as Pakistani society cannot see a link between Extreme ideas and extremists, Pakistan will continue to be in a fragile state and a danger to itself, friends and others.

Pakistan should help China destroy these terrorists because its not in Pakistan's interest to have another Afghanistan in our North-East border. China has always supported Pakistan in all issues, and we need this powerful ally as our immediate neighbour. Supporting these Uighur separatists will only harm Pakistan's strategic interests. It will be only in our enemies interests like here indians are so happy by this article and are wishing that this will destroy Pakistan-China friendship.

I wouldn't call this a religious uprising. Its an ethnic uprising. Han Chinese Muslims are more than happy being part of China. The Uighur movement reminds me of the BLA terrorists in Balochistan, they dont also like it when the majority ethnic group of Pakistan settle in Balochistan.

Very true. The issue here in Xinjiang is "ethnic unrest", not religious.

Most Muslims in China are Hui Chinese, and this issue doesn't effect them at all.

.
Just a thought .. Could it be an ploy by China to somehow link Xinjiang movement with Taliban/Al-Quaida so that they can act against them the way they want to and at the same time avoid being accused of any Human rights violation?

.
btw similar thing happened in 2007 when shaukat aziz visited china.....chinese authorities complained about terrorists coming into china from pakistan...there is a very long thread on PDF about the matter....search it.
Four years on the bilateral relations between the two countries have improved instead of deteriorating.
Rest assured both countries will sail through these turbulant waters..again.

.
well even if its true, its a good revenge in my opinion -- for india supporting the mukti bahini terrorists

You can rationalize it anyway you want....the point is it happened and your leaders have acknowledged it...

So your statement about the movement being "indegenous" falls flat on its face

mumbai has been attacked several times in the past few decades; none of those attacks had anything to do with Pakistani state; none of those attacks were Kashmir-centric.

Seriously...acting dense and pretending that Mumbai was not related to Kashmir is not going to change the fact that it was and has been proven beyond doubt that it emanated from Pak and was carried out by a group that claims to be Kashmir centric...

You can continue to play the fool....26/11 and its reasons are not for debate.

LeT is banned, it doesnt even exist.

Nice logic...What's the reason to ban it if it doesn't exist?

JuD -- big question mark; but not enough evidence to put their leaders away...provide sufficient proof that implicates them in mumbai thing, and Pakistan would be compelled to act.

prose and words are not evidence

I dont need to debate whether JUD and its leaders were involved or not...

But the fact that LET is a Pakistan based terror group with ties to JUD and recruits terrorists mainly from Punjab province of Pakistan is proof enough to indicate that the Kashmir movement is not indigenous...Pakistan turning a blind eye to these groups played a major role in the Kashmir unrest...

the pot calling the kettle black

Please explain...coz I dont remember ever obfuscating the definition of terrorism....

But Pakistanis justifying terrorism as you have done in this very post speaks loud and clear about the double standards Pakistan maintains wrt terrorism

neither country cares about what irks the other.....we dont need indian to feel ''compassionate'' or any of that nonsense.

I for one do feel badly for civilians and innocents dying....maybe thats wherein lies the problem

But i do think that since both have suffered casualties, and since both are stakeholders on CERTAIN un-avoidable issues -- makes sense to even out the playing field and confront the issues that prevent the countries from moving forward.

That makes no sense...

Pakistan is suffering because it bred the snake of terrorism which is now biting its master....
India is suffering from terrorism emanating from Pakistan...

The common cause here is eliminating terror since now you get a taste of your own medicine....

There is no terrorism emanating from Indian lands into Pak that can be considered to "even the playing field"...terrorism in your lands must be reigned in....India centric or otherwise.

terrorism is a global phenomenon.

Yes...terror attacks have affected a lot of countries....
The breeding ground though remains constant...

Pakistan has done more than its fair share to fight terrorism and extremism.

Has all terror been eliminated from your soil? If not then we still have a problem....

we can debate about the extent of your "share"....but given than Pakistan will not allow foreign operations on your soil, it remains largely your problem and unmitigated based on the current scenario..

The country has sacrificed a lot, financially and monetarily. It's important you realize that. And if you still have reservations or doubts, that is your own problem. Not mine, not ours.

So you do want us to acknowledge your contribution....But the attacks on India have not stopped have they?
26/11 was traced to Pak wasnt it?

So at the end of the day, if peace is truly what Pak wants with India, then Pakistan also needs to acknowledge that India-centric terrorism has to stop and only the GOP and PA can do that...otherwise there will be no end to the diplomatic jabs and the finger pointing that usually leads to India trying to isolate and malign Pak

Once that stops, I think every issue is negotiable and India can actually be of much help in fighting terror with Pak....

terrorism is a threat to all whether it happens in my country or other.rather than isolating and criticizing we must work together and eliminate all kind of terrorism.

Southern Xinjiang was alot more peaceful in the 1970's and 1980's. However, growing number of radical Wahhabi sect of Islam is changing that. This whole War on Terror thing has not made Xinjiang or Pakistan safer at all.

.
heart felt condolenses to my chinese brothers. Each act of terrorism is the symbol of the cowardice of these uncivilised creatures. I sincerely hope they will stop it
at least in the month of ramadan

I am surprised that though China has never complained except once in one of the State run papers and that too in an oblique way, this time it appears that they very serious about the issue.

While China has always successfully smashed all riots and fundamentalist activities, this time around, it must be a bit serious for China to openly state the fact.

There can be no doubt that the GoP and the establishment have no role to play because China is a mainstay of Pakistan and is very friendly, but what is worrisome is that the Fundamentalist organisations within Pakistan is getting stronger by the day and a law unto themselves!

As it is these terrorists are creating mayhem and chaos within Pakistan itself and now are hell bent on ruining Pakistan's international standing.

A total menace these terrorists have become!

.
Awww. That would be something disappointing for the trolls of a particular country.

:frown:

BEIJING (AFP) – A deadly weekend attack in China's restive Xinjiang region was masterminded by "terrorists" trained in Pakistan, the local government said Monday.

Fourteen people were killed in two attacks at the weekend in the ancient Silk Road city of Kashgar, and five alleged attackers were in turn shot dead by police in the wave of violence.

The Kashgar authorities said in a statement on their website that initial investigations found that the perpetrators of one attack learned explosive-making skills in terrorist-run camps in Pakistan.

"The heads of the group had learned skills of making explosives and firearms in overseas camps of the terrorist group East Turkistan Islamic Movement in Pakistan before entering Xinjiang," the online statement said.

Remote Xinjiang has seen several outbreaks of ethnic violence in recent years as the mainly Muslim Uighur minority bridles under what it sees as government oppression and the unwanted immigration of ethnic Han Chinese......

China says Xinjiang attack linked to Pakistan - Yahoo! News

This part of the statement is worth your perusal

The Kashgar authorities said in a statement on their website that initial investigations found that the perpetrators of one attack learned explosive-making skills in terrorist-run camps in Pakistan.

It is a well known fact that the regional authorities cannot make any statement that run counter to the official line at Beijing.

That said, read my post at #364, written before your post.

No one in his senses will say that the Pakistan Govt or the ISI or any other govt agency will promote terrorism in China. It would be as good as committing suicide.

It is just that the terrorist organisations in Pakistan has become a state within a state, encouraged by the apathy to rein them in, are now trying to spread their wings to make themselves a pièce de résistance of Born Again Islamic resurgence.

These terrorists require to be reined in since they are tearing up Pakistan itself, as also working at cross purpose to the Pakistan foreign policy.

You have said enough I guess. The rest was unnecessary.
