What's new

Xiaomi's website overloaded by Brazilian buyers on first day of launch

Isn't it all Indian smart phone brands use made-in-China smart phones?

A substantial majority of them do but some make at home too also with make in Indian campaign gaining momentum very soon they will make it here too

India is too far away from East Asia-ASEAN manufacturing chain.
Does Modi intend to develop a new manufacturing chain in South Asia?
I don't think the productivity in India can handle an efficient industry even your salary is very low.
If a Chinese worker earns 3k-4k yuan per month, but has five times higher productivity per capita, what's the choice of those companies? Move to interior of China, which has excellent infra, or move to ASEAN, nearer and relatively high productivity with not so high wages.

No he is trying to integrate into the global supply China, which is moving towards South East Asia, and South Asia.
Already, Foxconn has plans to invest upto about 10 billion dollars creating smartphone manufacturing hubs in India. Assembling in China is no longer feasible economically, and hence we can start from there.

Not true success in many hoghtech industries indicate that we can do it

That's the only available phone for Brazil right now.

It has a 4.7-inch, 720p display, powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor with 1GB of RAM. It runs Android, but with Xiaomi’s extensive MIUI skin over the top. There are two cameras fitted, an 8 megapixel on the rear, and a 2 megapixel on the front. A 2200mAh battery is inside, there’s 8GB of internal memory, a MicroSD card slot, two SIMs, and 4G LTE connectivity.

Awesome technology! Definitely China has scored big time --- Brazil is a massive market of over 150 million people !

I guess the strategy of the Chinese leadership is really something to admire. They invest in infrastructure in that country, and in return, the economic market opens , the flood gates open ....! Damn impressive, if i say so myself.

Factory already under construction?
Foxconn has just opened an industrial park in one of the poorest province in China, Guizhou Province.
One part of the great project of cloud computing park

The current trend is primarily moving to interior of China and ASEAN, where productivity per capita is high, workers have good work ethics and infra is good. More and more Chinese companies will open their factories in Southwest Asia to lower the cost and then ship the products to China and across the world.

Still my one plus one is better the only demerit is short length of the charger
one plus team was from OPPO/BBK. OPPO has very good products but it's too expensive.
BTW xiaomi TV and pad sell very well in China

You are right, labor costs is only one factor, other factors should include labor productivity (value added), supply chain, infrastructure, etc. Some labor, though not all, can be replaced by automation.

You are right.
Even the labour cost in Japan is super high, Japan is still one of the most important manufacturing powerhouse.
They deserve high wages, considering their high productivity per capita.
Chinese workers also deserve higher and higher salary, with Korean workers and Japanese workers as a high standard to reach.

South Korea definitely is a great model, bro. As for Chinese workers, no doubt they will reach the standards in Japan and Korea. I think we already are seeing that with Chinese domination of the mobile phone industry, air conditioner industry, television industry, satellite industry, pharmaceutical industry, shipbuilding industry, steel production industry, automobile industry !

It should be us Japanese that should be studying the Chinese model. Not the other way around. Because quite frankly, in my honest opinion, we have lagged and have been lagging for quite some time. We should be revitalizing ourselves to the level of the Koreans and Chinese.

And that's the honest to God truth!

I can't blame the indians and other foreigners for thinking labour cost is the only factor for companies to relocate. The western propaganda keep on pumping out the "as wages rise in China...."
Rising wages in China still not even close to matching any western countries.

China is a continent-size economy hence comparison of macroscopic indicators with JP/SK isn't fair.

Both South Korea and Japan are great model. The slight difference IMO is that South Korea is more pro-efficiency, and a die-hard spirit to success, while Japan's pride lies in centuries of tradition in precision craftsmanship. Sometimes I think Japanese workers are even stubborn, absolutely intolerant to however the slightest imperfection that even customers are willing to accept.

The spirit in perfection, in craftsmanship, is among many Japanese traits China needs to learn.

Exactly If labor was the only factor India would have become a Manufacturing powerhouse long ago

This is just another evidence that Xiaomi is a shame for China!

Xiaomi 's strategy/ Business Model in essence:

Ultra low price with high standard component = the darling of consumers

It is not wrong though. What is wrong, wrong and wrong is that Xiaomi doesn't achieve low price by drastically increase of technology and productivity, but by just cut the already razar-thin producer profit margin even thinner., because Xiaomi doesn't produce high tech patents, unlike Huawei.

This shameful business model is suicidal for local Chinese producers in the long run, forcing them having to work much harder, paying Chinese labours less, in order to satisfy overseas consumers who don't deserve the extra bloody efforts of Chinese hard-working labours at such ridiculously low prices that Xiaomi is marketing, while Ximomi's founder becoming a billionaire in the process.

Xiaomi, hang your urgly and selfish head in shame! Utterly dispicble behaviour!

i see what you're saying. I get this a lot with Asian business. Apple comes out with a $600 iphone. A Chinese company comes out with a phone with equal or better specs and sell it for $450.

It is the same with the Chinese restaurant business in Canada. One shop sell for $6 the kiosk across the food court sell it for $5.50. Down the mall on the left another place sell it for $6.50.

Instead of trying to grow the sector they try to out price one another. good for consumers bad for business.

The fundamental reason for this kind of scumbag biz model is the immoral ethics of businessmen who want to make quick bucks for themselves.

Not only Xiaomi, but also Alibaba and Baidu. They are NOT assets for China and Chinese people in the long run, but liabilities. In contrast, Huawei, ZTE, tencents etc are the real assets.

Take Alibaba for a simple example, it doesn't sell books, but only quick-money cheap clothes and sh!t.

Why? because books usually don't make that much of money compared to others.

However, books instead of clothese are the real aseets for a country and a people, because books contain knowledges.

Alibaba and corrupted dumb fcuk like Ma Yun have been siphoning Chinese wrokers' blood becoming multi-billionaires. Selling books, at least, could be said as Alibaba's responsibility, even though it losses money instead of earning less, because that's a responsbile businessman should do - to give a decent feedback to the very people who have made him ridiculous rich that he doesn't desearve it in the first place.

What Ma Yun has ever done in his lowlife to contribute to the rise of Chinese nation and Chinese people welfare? NOTHING! he even doesn't want to sell books, as a minumum deent act, in his Alibaba platform because books make less money than clothes and plastic bags. What a scumbag he is!
