SAO PAULO, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi's online store in Brazil was overloaded on Tuesday due to the large amount of buyers, the first day its products were put on sale here.

Xiaomi's star model "Redmi 2" was officially put on sale for the Brazilian market on its online store at 12:00 a.m. local time Tuesday.

The first batch of smartphones were only for consumers with reservations, but the number of buyers trying to visit the website increased so fast that the online store was immediately overloaded. It returned to normal one and half an hour later.

Hugo Barra, vice president of Xiaomi international, said that the onslaught of consumers was only natural, adding that in September 2014, Indians bought all the 40,000 "Redmi 1s" smartphones in 4.2 seconds.

However, the experience was unpleasant for locals who were not familiar with Xiaomi's way of selling. Some complained on Facebook about how difficult it was to obtain a Xiaomi phone.

"I kept refreshing the webpage for two hours, but still didn't get it. Xiaomi should have given us a heads-up on its way of selling things," said Carlos Sassi. "But I will still buy it."

Brazil is Xiaomi's first market outside Asia and the cheapest Redmi 2 model is only 499 reais (162 U.S. dollars).

Xiaomi, created in 2010, is currently the fifth major smartphone maker in the world. Its MIUI operational system has 100 million subscribers.

The company has a market value of around 45 billion dollars. It sold 61 million mobile devices last year.

That's the only available phone for Brazil right now.

It has a 4.7-inch, 720p display, powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor with 1GB of RAM. It runs Android, but with Xiaomi’s extensive MIUI skin over the top. There are two cameras fitted, an 8 megapixel on the rear, and a 2 megapixel on the front. A 2200mAh battery is inside, there’s 8GB of internal memory, a MicroSD card slot, two SIMs, and 4G LTE connectivity.

Xiaomi is average phone both Mi 3 & Mi 4 when compared to a simmilar priced Chinese brand called one plus one but its value for money

Xiaomi is not just about smart phone in China.
Xiaomi is more software-oriented, not hardware. What Xiaomi wants to create is a pattern of Xiaomi way of life. In China it also sells TV, air purifier, bedside lamp, sphygmomanometer, etc.

Still my one plus one is better the only demerit is short length of the charger

I have never heard of one plus until joining PDF, although it is a Chinese brand, with similar sales strategy as Xiaomi.

Its a good phone been using it for 3 months now ,before I was cautious of buying becuz it was a Chinese brand but then I thought what the hell & bought it anyway needless to say I don't regret my decision

This is a deliberate, and remarkably well working tactic. Xiaomi deliberately tries to create a deficiency in demand, to create an aura of want for Xiaomi.

This definition of made is very imprecise, and in today's terms inaccurate.

Yes, Indian vendors are at the bottom end of the value heirarchy, for they started by selling rebranded Chinese smart phones, but over time some of the prominent ones have gained enough experience and scale to design their own phones. Some are even assembling the phones here, and the talk to localize manufacturing growing. So on the whole Smartphone manufacturing is a big supply chain.

It starts with upstream, higher valued suppliers, like Sony, Sharp, Samsung, who are known to make best Display screens and Image sensors, to Foundry services, like Samsung, Intel, and TSMC, to fabless chip designers, like Hisilicon, Qualcomm, MediaTek.

China is somewhere in the middle of the supply chain. It can design phones, make a lot of components as well, has some exceptional fabless firms like Hi Silicon, but lags in high end foundry services, display panels, sensors, and the like.

India is too far away from East Asia-ASEAN manufacturing chain.
Does Modi intend to develop a new manufacturing chain in South Asia?
I don't think the productivity in India can handle an efficient industry even your salary is very low.
If a Chinese worker earns 3k-4k yuan per month, but has five times higher productivity per capita, what's the choice of those companies? Move to interior of China, which has excellent infra, or move to ASEAN, nearer and relatively high productivity with not so high wages.
