The CEO of Xiaomi India, Manu Jain, made this situation public

The CEO of Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain, posted a Twitter alerting the general public about this situation. The scam is carried out through conception to open a new Mi Store franchise, with the first affected, the retail distributors, who end up paying to obtain distribution rights along with the brand logo and at the end, all the documents that are given to them are fake, but the complicated part of this is that the paperwork they are given comes with the authorized signature of the CEO of Xiaomi India, Manu Jain, who claims that his signature was falsified. He also mentions that the case was already reported in the department of computer crimes of the police, so it would be a matter of time to find those responsible. FRAUD ALERT! I have come across a scam where few retailers have been cheated into buying fake franchises of @XiaomiIndia Mi Stores!

Shocking to see forged documents, with my fake signatures.

We have filed a case with cyber crime department & police is investigating this matter.

How can we identify these fake Mi Stores?

So far, Manu Jain does not offer any particular data that allows us to detect any false Mi Store, but instead, gives us advice, which refers to the following, if we distrust any product, price or any other situation that make us doubt the veracity of the purchase, we can consult directly with Xiaomi India through various channels, either through their official social networks, a contact phone number or through its website, Mi.com. For now it is unknown how many minority distributors have been scammed, likewise, it is not known how many continue operating under this facade, so it is suggested to proceed with caution until the situation is solved. Next we will present you the Tweet that Manu Jain published, in which you can appreciate the methods to communicate with Xiaomi:

Ask Mr. Kumar, not me.

Just like those scammers from "Microsoft Technical Department" or IRS, etc.

Google is half Indian.

In fact, it is an Indian company.

Microsoft is an old story. They better move their HQ to Mumbai, already.

Guess some Indian scammers found a new way to make a few bucks, but at least they should have a better taste to fake Apple, Samsung, or at least Micromax, but cheap Xiao Mi?

Come to think about it, isn't it the very reason that Xiaomi is so successful in India, being cheap?

Xiaomi calls on a large number of scams to retailers in India

Xiaomi is one of the companies that have best adapted to the international market, although it is true that in Chinais a great company, it does not compare to what it is in other parts of the world such as India, being the number one company in the whole country regarding technology. Throughout 2018, India was a super important market and represented a significant gain for this company, so they attach great importance to what happens in this territory.

Xiaomi and the fake shops of India

Due to the enormous importance that the Indian market has for Xiaomi, many executives are aware of the situations presented in that country with respect to retailers. Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi’s Global Vice President, made a publication through Twitter informing all the users of this country that there are many fake Mi offline stores. His words were “FRAUD ALERT! I have come across a scam where few retailers have been cheated into buying fake franchises of @XiaomiIndia Mi Stores! Shocking to see forged documents, with my fake signatures. We have filed a case with cybercrime department & police is investigating this matter”.

This is something quite alarming for the company because they opened more than 500 official Mi Stores only in 2018 in this territory, so the scammers have a lot of territories to do their dirty business, and this becomes more problematic because Xiaomi has plans to open up to 5000 stores in India soon, so this type of practices could continue to grow with the arrival of new Mi Stores.

Cheap and good quality. They can copy cheap (population dividend), but good quality, I suspect.
