Isn't that the G5 expressway with the crazy loop?

Yes, the entire G5 expressway has a mileage of nearly 3000km
it connects five provincial capitals with Beijing
from the southwest corner all the way to the political centre

The crazy loop is the Ya'an-Xichang section of G5, in the south of Sichuan Province.
If you take a bus from Chengdu to Xichang, you will see that.
(and it won't be too long before we could take bullet train to Xichang)

Other important expressways tunnelling through the great Qinling Mountains include:
G65 Baotou-Maoming

Respect to China on pushing Infra across the country. Indian politicians in last 65 years only pushed for caste/ religion for votes not development.

Best luck for india's new HSR.
HSR might be the best transport system in a populated country.

A busy Friday between two ancient cities
On the first Friday since inauguration, Xi'an-Chengdu HSR was very popular among tourists.
Now only 40 bullet per day, will increase to around 120 at the end of this month including many long-distance through services like Chengdu-Xi'an-Beijing trains.
