After months of speculation, Microsoft is unveiling its “Project Scorpio” games console today, and it's officially named Xbox One X. Microsoft's Xbox One X naming comes just days after the company trademarked a mysterious S logo, and started dropping Scorpio hints in its E3 teaser videos. Microsoft is planning to launch the Xbox One X on November 7th worldwide.

All existing Xbox One accessories will work on the new Xbox One X, alongside all existing Xbox 360 backwards compatible titles and Xbox One games. Microsoft is even planning to use "super sampling" on the One X to make new games look better even on 1080p TVs.

The new console will ship with 6 teraflops of graphical power, more than its main competitor, the PS4 Pro, with 4.2 teraflops. Microsoft is using a custom GPU engine on Scorpio that runs at 1172MHz, a big increase over the Xbox One’s 853MHz and even Sony’s 911MHz found on the PS4 Pro.

Microsoft has previously promised that 900p and 1080p Xbox One games should be able to run at native 4K on the Xbox One X, and that existing Xbox One and 360 games will see a noticeable performance boost. The rear of Microsoft’s new console is based on the Xbox One S, with a HDMI-in port and no dedicated Kinect port. Scorpio also features liquid-cooled vapor-chamber cooling inside, a technology that's used on high-end PC gaming cards like the GTX 1080.

Microsoft says the new Xbox One X is the "smallest Xbox ever," and the design looks very similar to the existing Xbox One S model. One of the first titles for the new console is Forza Motorsport 7, running at native 4K and 60fps. You can watch exclusive gameplay below, and Forza Motorsport 7 will debut on October 3rd.

Microsoft has 22 "console launch exclusives" arriving on the Xbox One X, including Crackdown 3, Forza Motorsport 7, and Sea of Thieves. Microsoft's Xbox chief, Phil Spencer, has been introducing a number of new titles and leaving most of the company's E3 press conference up to the games themselves.

So how powerful is the GPU compare with a PC running a gtx 1080 or higher?

Still way slower. Keep in mind at 499 US, this barely covers the 1080's cost, never mind the rest.

1080 operates at 1733 MHz relative to X's 1173 MHz.

Well Xbox one X's GPU have 6 tera flops while a GTX 1080 have 9 tera flops soo... but still MS have done a good job lot of games are running at native 4k/60 like Forza even AC origins was running at native 4k with consistent FPS. But what is important here is that you will play games at native 4k for only $499.

That's true. My PC with i5, amd 280 GPU can run most modern games with better graphics than Xbox one or ps4.

But its not native 4k or true 1080p . I have ps4 and I compare the same games to my pc version . PC always better graphics hands down

Consoles these days are essentially subsidized PCs with middle to high end GPUs. Good thing is that they force game authors to squeeze every bit of performance from those specs. Same will show in PC ports of these games because after all these games were built against Direct X etc. Gone are the days when Console games were built on exotic architectures and porting them to PC was a hellish job. More and better games on PC. Thanks Sony and Microsoft for bringing X86-64 in Gaming consoles.
I am waiting for PC port of FF XV -- A bunch of tasty looking guys bro-mancing in 4K resolution! What could be better :)
