WS-13 engine

Understand the life of USA & French engine is closer to 4,000 hours. Russain & Chinese life being nearly half means life cycle maintenance cost of Soviet & Chinese fighters is considerably more. Can anyone with first-hand knowledge of engines confirm this?

Yessir---that is correct---. Actually the engine life of the american engine maybe longer---but then the price is 4---5 times more as well.

So for our scenario of the current JF17---and supposed "financial restraints"---the russian engine is a better option---because it leaves with funds for an overall better EW package---+ we don't have to be concerned about sanctions.

Most of the talk and discussion has been around block 3 and what upgrades it would have. The Achilles heal to the future progress or upgradation of jf17 program as a whole coupled with the possibility of j31 becoming a project azam specific jf31 remains ws13 or rd93ma.
A common, less maintenance prone (MTBO), more robust and powerful engine across both plateform may entice paf to move towards jf31.
