Fuckin tell me about it. I was always hovering to NYC on the weekends.

The annual World Happiness Report published on Monday by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network has ranked Israel as the 11th happiest country in the world in 2017, a spot it has held for four years.

Prepared by the network and the Earth Institute at Columbia University, the report’s release coincides with UN World Happiness Day on March 20.
When the publication first launched in 2012, Israel was ranked at number 14 out of the 156 countries surveyed that year.

The top 10 countries this year, respectively, are Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Holland, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden.
Notable mentions include the United States at 14, Britain at 18 and the South American nation of Chile at 20.

The World Happiness Report is a survey of global societal well-being that ranks 155 countries by happiness levels using variables such as GDP per capita and healthy life expectancy. The report also includes extra factors such as social support, generosity, freedom to make life choices and perceived absence of corruption.
Yemen, South Sudan, Liberia, Guinea, Togo, Rwanda, Syria, Tanzania, Burundi and the Central African Republic were at the very bottom of the list, in that order.

“Happy countries are the ones that have a healthy balance of prosperity, as conventionally measured, and social capital, meaning a high degree of trust in a society, low inequality and confidence in government,” Jeffrey Sachs, the network director and a special adviser to the United Nations secretary-general, said in an interview.

The aim of the report, he added, is to provide another tool for governments, businesses and civil society to help their countries find ways to improve the well-being of citizens.

Because "snow deserts" like Finland have done works of wonder in terms of social structures for its population, types of work India can only dream of.

People are happy there with their lives, if you Indians are not so happy, then improve the social structures instead of bashing other developed and happier countries.

Almost all Scandanavian countries are quite happy chaps, you see it often when you meet them.

Not everyone can have Sweden as its neighbour and brother!

Nothing has made the Icelanders as happy as their football successes
under their Swedish coach.

Why the Swiss are happy, is inexplicable since they said no to Gripen!

And Denmark ?

Danish is funny. Well,it's not even a language,it's fake.

You should visit and see why. The ranking is accurate for the states I have been to.

Yep, a world class education system, innovative firms and strong public services put the Finns in good shape. Lovely folk as well.

Might give Trump a chance to achieve something, who knows.
Maybe we'll dominate rank 1 in the upcoming years :-)
There is probably a lot of happy Democrats today when DJT is branded a liar by CIA and NSA,
but that will probably pass.

Here is the actual report;

Well done to the Scandinavian folks, always spot on. Good to see the UK's brother countries in three of the top ten positions. Makes me ponder on what we are doing so wrong.

Other countries with sizeable posters on this forum are;

14. The US.

20. The UK.

21. UAE.

26. Singapore (surprised by this).

31. France.

37. Saudi Arabia.

42. Malaysia.

46. Poland.

48. Italy.

51. Japan (not surpising i.e. work to death culture)

56. South Korea.

57. Romania.

69. Turkey.

71. Hong Kong.

79. China (accurate?)

80. Pakistan (thread on social forum)

81. Indonesia (ideas?)

94. Vietnam (surprised to see such a low ranking)

102. Tunisia.

104. Egypt.

108. Iran (ideas?)

110. Bangladesh.

120. Sri-Lanka

122. India.

141. Afghanistan (War)

What are your thoughts on the whole "social crisis" thing. The US ranking is still good.
We are not happy because we have u as neighbours, but u r perfectly "happy" to have us as neighbours :p:

26. Singapore (surprised by this).

Why? Because we seem stressful and repressive?

I don't see how Malaysia or Colombia ranks above Japan though, based on the factors they measure.

It looks at factors including economic strength (measured in GDP per capita), social support, life expectancy, freedom of choice, generosity, and perceived corruption.

In the quantifiable measures such as GDP per capita, life expectancy, social support and perceived corruption, Japan wins over them hands down.

I don't think Japan is much less free or generous than Malaysia or Colombia to able to pull the overall rank down.

But based on the metrics I see, it's not factored into it right?

Moreover I think Japan's working culture has been exaggerated and stereotyped too much.
