World's top tourist destinations

well in india peoples civic sense such as spitting on walls in public places in mumbai and lack of hyginic enimities stray tourist of. This puts negative impression on tourists. As I am currently in Mumbai I can see how people drive, they dont value human life and traffic rules are a joke and people spitting on train station is just too much. Even for tourists.
So I blame citizens of India for making india dirty

I agree. GOI should take initiative in educating masses about Hygiene through social media and television. I remember back in the days when we only had Doordarshan (state television) there were few successful campaigns. "Family planning" ads come to mind. We do have measures but we lack controls to implement them. Indian police force is too small and corrupt for our huge country. IMO, that's where you take the first step.

6: UK 28.1 million
7: Turkey 27.0 million

India needs to do some nice ads in Europe, i'm sure you can attract tourists that way.

Most-visited cities by international tourist arrivals (in millions)

2 London United Kingdom 14.7

9 Istanbul Turkey 8.1
10 Bangkok Thailand 7.2

Woop woop! 2 turkish cities in top ten :D

8 Hong Kong, China

. . .
If we want to be really pedantic, then we are actually called "Hong Kong (SAR), China".

But it's not a big deal, anything is fine really. :azn:

The biggest tourist attraction will be the live suicide attack by taliban
That was really uncalled for. :(
On topic: we should improve our infrastructure and be more tourism friendly. Tourists who come now are the brave ones, we should be able to invite ordinary family tourists.

I'm sorry but the tube is a horrible place- crowded, old, poorly maintained, hot, humid, unsafe etc etc not tourist hot spot in itself I would've thought. Isn't the Delhi Metro larger now/or will be? And looks way nicer/cleaner.

Oh look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are nowhere on the list......
We've some amazing places in the North, however, they at the moment are infested with A-Rabs & Co. Hence not a nice place to visit, unless you don't appreciate your own life (neck) :P

Places like London and New York probably got a lot of business people and they become part time travellers so they count.

Both India and China still have a lot of potentials, current problem of these two countries:

China: Language (huge problem for foreigners), advertisement - Most foreigners visit places like Beijing, Xian, Yangshuo etc. And only few actually visit the most beautiful places in China like Northern xinjiang, jiuzhaigou valley etc. Maybe government want to restrict tourism to protect the ecological system?

India: Hotels and infrastructures. Major hotels are unbelievably expensive in Indian cities. My friend who visisted Delhi/Agra from Tokyo got shocked. I once read a blog by an Indian business man living in China discussing how this actually curb the business activities. Infrastructure is another headache for western visitors. If all these are fixed, India should be in top 3 easily with better language environment and the diversity of attractions it can offer.

Is Lahore having this problem at all? A bit surprised.
