Engro Starts the Worlds Biggest Urea Plant in Pakistan, The new urea plant of Engro Corporation Limited started production on Wednesday, which analysts said would end dependence on imports.
The plant is owned by the Engro Corps non-listed subsidiary, Engro Fertliser, and has a capacity to produce 1.3 million tonnes of urea on an annual basis.
The addition of one-billion-dollar plant would reaffirm Engros second position in the domestic urea market after Fauji Fertiliser, increasing its share from the current 16 percent to 32 percent.
The total demand for urea in the country ranges from 6.1 to 6.5 million tonnes, as per the latest data and is destined to grow amid post-flood agricultural activities. This year, the shortfall remained around 600,000 tonnes and was met through imports.
