World's best assault rifle

What...nope...not in real life. Trust me on this.
A lot of stuff is different in theory than in practice but in theory because the 7.62 is heavier, its effectiveness over long ranges will deteriorate faster then a lighter bullet like the 5.56.

I don't have any experience with ranges that long though, so I'd say an experienced opinion is more valuable than theories.

I suppose you never shot any of these rounds ? The larger bullet draws more drag. We are not talking about sniper rifles, but military style assault rifles.

Dragunov shoots 1,000 meters.
Sniperskaya Vintovka Dragunova – SVD

While broadly classed as a sniper’s weapon, it was meant to increase the effective firing range of a motorized rifle detachment to 600 meters (656 yards), extending the 400-meter (437-yard) reach of the AK47.

What about G3s you guys produced (if im not wrong),
Originally a SPanish design (CETME) ....

There are 3 main types of assault rifle ammo. American 5.56 by 45, Russian 5.45 by 39, Chinese 5.8 by 42.
7.62x39 (e.g. AK-47)?
7.62x51(e.g. FN FAL)?

Well for me its FN SCAR and HK-417 and above all it always will be AK-47

Upgraded INSAS 1B1 around 1million produced and serving across sector where big names and fancy design failed miserably.

my favorite , Every Army should replace their Primary weapons with this ... trust me this weapon is deadly and can kill you :p:

@TankMan @fallstuff I have shot the 7.62 (.308) for most of my life. The .308 is the 2nd most popular plains game hunting round in SA. Where I live the hunting is mainly over long distances on grassland. I have grown up on the mantra that heavier bullets are better. The reasons for this are: the heavier bullets carry more energy, are better at defeating cover, are less affected by wind, penetrate more and can shoot further. Yes heavier bullets and bullets with a larger cross section experience more drag but that is something the shooter can compensate for.
Lighter bullets have higher muzzle velocities and expand better. Since the Geneva convention prohibits the use of expanding bullets for warfare that benefit is useless (I prefer solids anyway). Muzzle velocity is worth nothing if the bullet is going to change direction faster than a woman's mood the moment it hits a blade of grass or a crosswind.
As far as even comparing the .308 with the 5.56 goes...don't be ridiculous. I have taken Eland with the .308 at 200m and blesbok at 350m with solids and never had a problem. With the 5.56 I have seen a springhassie take a hit at 50m and survive. (see pic for what a springhassie is). I don't know what you mean by long distance but neither the 7.62 nor the 5.56 were designed to shoot very far. The 5.56/.223 is a terrible round and that is a fact.

My personal favorites:

7.62 by 39 has stopped production since 1974. 7.62 by 51 is full power bullet, not assault bullet.
1) Shortly after the war, the world's most recognized military pattern rifle was designed for the 7,62x39 cartridge (the AK47). The cartridge remained the Soviet standard until the 1970s. It was replaced in Russian service by the 5.45x39 cartridge, which is used by the current issue AK-74 and variants. Nonetheless, the 7,62x39 is still one of the most common intermediate rifle cartridges used around the world. If 7,62x39 ammo is no longer produced, how come AK47 is still usable?

2) So, therefor ... the FAL is not an assault rifle? Or SCAR-H for that matter?
