World’s biggest airport set to open in Beijing in 2017

Master plans for the new mega airport in Beijing were released Thursday by Dutch Airport Consultancy firm NACO. Located just outside Beijing, it will have capacity for 130 million passengers per year, 23 million more than JFK and London Heathrow combined.

The new airport will
provide a second hub for the city, whose current airport handles almost 75 million passengers a year. The current airport, Beijing Capital International Airport, will be reaching its capacity within a few years.

The new airport, to be called Beijing Daxing International Airport, is scheduled to open in 2017. The recently released plans show a new hub that will cover 55 square kilometers (about 21 square miles) and include eight runways.

Plans also show an integrated ground transportation hub, which will shuttle passengers into Beijing with a journey time of 30 minutes on a high-speed railway. A slower route on the city's underground will also be available.

Atlanta is currently the busiest airport in the world, transporting more than 89 million passengers per year, followed by Beijing's current airport which transports more than 73 million passengers and Heathrow which transports around 65 million passengers.

NACO is one of the world's leading independent airport consultancy and engineering firms. In recent years the firm has been involved with over 550 airports of all sizes in more than 100 countries.

Recently NACO has collaborated with Viracopos-Campinas International Airport in Brazil which processed 7.5 million passengers in 2011 and is expected to grow to 15 million.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, another of the firm's projects, is frequently named as "the best airport in the world." NACO has been working on its development since 1960. Recently the firm assisted the airport expand its capacity from 18 million to 48 million passengers annually.

By then city of Beijing will boast the biggest and most advanced airport, the longest subway network system, the biggest railway station in the world. and the city is well on its way to become one of the transportation centers in the world..

Freaking sh!t, whether it's Beijing or any Chinese cities China holds many titles when it comes down to the biggest or the longest structures. The tallest buildings gets taken away quickly by other countries without problem but for any other countries to claim the title of the longest rail network that's not gonna happen unless they have massive land. China's smart planning, infrastructure and modernizing the connectivity between cities blows away my mind.

Pakistan should acquire the help of china to develop and enhance its airports.
It,s great to see how the chinese are preparing for the future.
Well done.

World's Best Airports by size of Airport | over 50 million passengers
The results shown below have been extracted from the Global Airport Rankings in the World Airport Awards, to demonstrate the relative performance for each airport, according to the numbers of passengers handled on an annual basis.

World's busiest airports by passenger traffic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Look at the results for total passengers in 2012, Beijing Capital International Airport handled 46,950,904 passengers and Seoul Incheon International Airport only had 22,196,307 passengers. Someone here is jealous and wants to brag about the overall no 1 spot while they only handled ~20 million travelers. Seoul probably couldn't handle 47 millions of people when you talk about performance and service of the airport.

Congratulations for another milestone but bigger airport, bigger delays bigger place to get through to get your connection i would rather have butterflies and an orchid garden than 5,000,000 other people to get past give me Changi.

Beijing Capital International Airport is the world's Best Airport for speedy and efficient baggage delivery according to airline travelers at the 2012 World Airport Awards

Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) celebrated another successful year by winning the award for Best Airport Baggage Delivery at the 2012 World Airport Awards which were held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Vienna.

"BCIA passenger numbers have continued to rise over the last year, but this has not impacted the overall level of customer satisfaction. In areas such as baggage delivery and security processing BCIA performs to an excellent standard and planned infrastructure improvements over the next 12-months should further enhance customer satisfaction." said Edward Plaisted, Chairman, SKYTRAX.

Former winner Zurich Airport took 2nd place in this years awards, with the 2012 World's Best Airport, Incheon International Airport, taking 3rd place. In Europe Copenhagen Airport claimed 4th place with Vienna Airport achieving a strong 5th place finish.

Atlanta is still the busiest but it is expected Beijing will handle more passengers in the near future.

By the way the 47 million passengers is from Jan - July. If you look at the 2011 statistics Atlanta had 92 mln and Beijing had 77 mln passengers.
