People urged to switch lights off for an hour
KARACHI: Earth Hour is to be observed between 8:30pm to 9:30pm in the metropolis on Saturday (today) by switching off lights to depict concern for climate change and global warming as Sindh government and City District Government Karachi (CGDK) had already inked Earth Hour Declaration.
Pakistan has a lesser contribution as compare to rest of the world towards global warming but the country is at receiving end due to high global warming by neighbours like India and China, said Saleem Sheikh a spokesman of World Wildlife Fund. WWF and Sindh government are jointly organising World Earth Hour. Sindh government has declared Sindh as Earth Hour province to express solidarity with global fraternity in observance of Earth Hour which is observed all over the world to show unity against global warming and climate change by switching off lights and electric appliances for one hour. A meeting was also held on Friday to review the arrangements on Earth Hour presided over by Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy Sheikh Muhammad Afzal. staff report
