Work on INDIA's BULLET TRAIN is underway in Full Swing

Sounds like a economically nonviable project, it should have been between places which generates maximum economic activity.

Yeah, but it will take much more time to get land. The Ahmedabad-Mumbai link is a flagship project, a test before initiating the much larger Diamond Quadrilateral.

A long link like Delhi-Mumbai has greater chances of failure as a standalone project. But under Diamond Quadrilateral, it will be much easier.

Most of it is desert or hills. If built elevated (like Bombay-Gujarat), it won't be any more difficult and it will be more economical so investors will see success and build more.

A criminal waste of money IMO. Far better they upgraded existing stations, quadrupled the major lines, improved catering, replaced rolling stock sooner.

Instead we have this vanity project that will likely require highly subsidised tickets to lure travellers away from air travel.
If government works, its criminal and if it doesn't work then it again is criminal. I don't understand what is the problem with some problem. When government is already building more than 3000 kms of not all tracks per year and still increasing the average speed, industrial corridor going in full swing and about to be operationalized shortly, it doesn't make sense why high speed railways have to be sacrificed to fill the pockets of some politicians if they come in power next. In that case you will nither get HSR nor normal tracks. And maybe that's better output for you people.

They should bore 4 tunnels, 2 for the bullet trains and 2 for metro to Navi Mumbai airport.
Metro is not required, rather MUTP structure covers all Mumbai suburban areas. Needless infrastructure not perfect time. Navi Mumbai is getting proper infrastructure one by one.

Gujrat first...
No, only Indian first. For this scale funding has to be recovered first to set a example for rest to follow.

Yea I find that stupid af too. It should be from Delhi to Bombay but our Chakravartin needs to give to his janmabhumi first.
Delhi to Mumbai will be semi high speed train with DMIC separating frieght loading. Bullet train will be extended to Delhi in small- 2 efforts connecting local cities. Speaking from my father's experience being 1st grade employee of IR.

yes.. he is still acting like random politician.. be it crop loan waiver. it is more a election stunt .. it's been 3yrs almost, many farmers committed suicide in lot of states.. he spend most of time either criticizing congess or praising note ban..
If you want government to arrange for rain, that's non starter. Already seen in previous experiment. If you want note ban to not happen, pls give justification. I was also personally inconvenienced though I pay taxes will being from lower middle class. But I believed it made a difference, not in a way people project as curroption is deep rooted in our culture now. But what it did was to shake the roots of curropted people and made them uneasy, I think that's worth the pain I took compared to when I had to wait for tickets during Bajrangi Bhaijaan. And as alast point we will not get life of dead farmers neither bullet train if we go on like previously. Thank you.

That's a silly justification. What does economy have to do with vanity projects. The US does not have a bullet train either - despite being the biggest economy.

My objection is not about loan / gift / revenue accruals - i.e. source of funding - rather it is about the judicious use of money. Are we a country with tons of money to spare that we can indulge in such expensive projects that confer very doubtful utility.

Time

Today the travel time Mumbai to Ahmedabad is 6.2 hours by Shatabdi. Shatabdi uses normal track that costs about Rs 13-15 crores / km. By air the time is about 30 minutes.

Bullet train track costs will be >Rs 100 crore / km. That track will also likely be exclusive - making its use limited to the bullet trains. Travel time estimates are about 2-3 hours. I'm sure Bullet trains will have a greater degree of security procedures prior to boarding and that time will likely increase.

So we spend 7x the cost of track infrastructure just to save 3-4 hours!? If someone is in a hurry he will simply take a flight. If not 6 hrs is pretty ok.

Cost

Flight tickets are easily available for Rs. 1,500-2,500.

Bullet train costs will certainly be more than current Shatabdi 1A prices. The shatabdi price is Rs 1855 and it's absolutely noncompetitive against air fare.

If Bullet fares are equal to or higher than this nobody will use it simply because flights are cheaper.

Think about it. If you had to pay Rs 2,500 for a bullet train ticket on this sector - would you not simply look at flight prices and say - if I'm spending so much I may as well take a flight?
Sorry to correct you but bullet train tracks can be used by frieght and normal trains in night leading to lower pressure on normal tracks and increasing uses of HSR.

We all know how lackluster those two have been. Modi wants to be the lion of Gujarat.

Peons: Where should we put our 1st bullet train?
Modi: Gujarat
Peons: Where should we put our international trading centre?
Modi: Gujarat
Peons: Where should we build World's tallest statue
Modi: Gujarat
Peons: New Delhi is close too the border, where should we move the capital
Modi: Gujarat
Peons: India is a foreign name, what should we rename India?
Modi: Gujarat

Delhi to Bombay is the most economic. They'll soon see Gujaratis live up to their stereotype and the train won't be used.
So much blindness, sometimes I wonder where are we headed without deep introspection.

While you're at it please connect one from Chennai to Delhi! Chennai to Mumbai :smitten::D
All in step by step phases.

Perhaps you should be informed mate that Mumbai Ahmedabad section is part of Main quadtrantial bullet train corridor. Not all section is built in one day.

Sounds like a economically nonviable project, it should have been between places which generates maximum economic activity.
Once financial viability established it can be profitable in least time, there is nothing to doubt about it. It's in open buddy. Have a look in that.

It's not a test, rather it's first stage of diamond quadtrantial.

This section will not be mejority on elevated or underground, rather it will be properly fenced to reduce the costing factor just like it's planned in Delhi Jaipur, Delhi Patna, Delhi Amritsar section. However Kolkata to Patna and southern section will pass through hilly terrain. Another section which I can think of is Delhi Chandigarh Amritsar section being another prosperous and heavy user of railways. Southern states(personally lived in Kerala and Karnataka) mostly depend on road transport from my past and experience, so they will gradually shift to bullet network that's my understanding.

And last but not least financial feasibility on people's behavior/pattern on uses mode if transport where this route gets most with business people mostly.

Delhi -Mumbai should be on top priority.... Delhi-Mumbai has greater chances of failure? how come.... does that mean they should abandon? if not today then when?

Delhi-Mumbai will have a dedicated freight corridor. They don't have an immediate need for HSR when aircraft are enough. Ahmedabad-Mumbai will be extended to Delhi in the north and Chennai in the south. The same Ahmedabad route will also go through MP to Kolkata. All of this will take 10+ years.

how this Ahmedabad-Mumbai maglev feasible... freight corridor for goods.. so please don't compare these two..

Any Delhi-Mumbai corridor has to go through hell for land acquisition. And the dedicated freight corridor is already done, so goods can be transferred at high speed anyway. So why build a HSR for passenger transport now, when it can be built in phases?

And it's not maglev.

It is not about Janma bhoomi. Who will pay high cost of travel except Gujaratis?

Bombay Delhi corridor will cost 3 times higher and project cost shall be 3 Lakh crore.

Let me guess you're from Gujarat?? There is a stereotype for a reason. Gujaratis are least likely to pay. North Indians are heavy spenders, South Indians will spend if they think it's worth it, but Gujaratis will never.

businessmen and Industrialist does... you cannot increase frequency of these maglev due to limited no of passengers.. but Mumbai delhi section always on demand..

feasibility subjected to frequency of these cars between two destination wrt occupancy ratio.... i have lil knowledge over super conductivity- maglev ...

Just check who travels in shatabdi and in other higher classes. I think Gujaratis beat rest of all put to gather.
And mind you, When Bullet train project was conceived in the time of Man mohan, A'bad to Bombay route was on the top of routes considered for the project. so it is not modi.

I wont call it criminal as it is a soft loan which will be payed back over a time period of 50 years or so.

That said I agree HSR like this does not make sense in India at least right now. Better idea will be to build low cost airports in plenty and increase air connectivity for passenger transport.

HSR is more suited for Pakistan actually, because of their geography.

I wonder if there is any research in electric planes?

Also, we need to add more railway lines on our existing routes. Route congestion is one of the reasons which slow our train transit. Politicians add more trains but not more tracks.

.
Congratulations!
Any news about the chennai to Delhi route? Did I get the cities right?
