RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa said on Tuesday that they will not allow the enemy's plans to use terrorism as a tool for fanning sectarianism in the country to succeed.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release that the army chief will be spending the second day of Eid in Parachinar, where relatives of Friday's twin-bombing victims are holding a protest sit-in against government 'apathy'.

The army chief will review the situation after the twin blasts.

The Army said on Wednesday that enemies of Pakistan, hostile intelligence agencies and anti-state elements, are deliberately trying to create ethnic and sectarian divide through recent terrorist attacks.

The Army statement, released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), further said that “our enemy is now trying to target and fragment us along sectarian, ethnic lines which merits a unified national response”.

The statement by the military’s media wing comes after a spate of recent attacks in Quetta and Parachinar which claimed more than 70 lives and injured dozens more. The attacks, all on June 23, shook the country after it had witnessed a period of relative calm.

“The ongoing malicious campaign of enemies of Pakistan which is also being spread on social media is highly regrettable and we all need to be cognizant of it,” added the ISPR statement.

“For us every Shaheed / injured is equal regardless of sect / ethnicity and indeed is a great loss,” ISPR quoted Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa as saying.

The army chief added that the religious rights of minorities are fully respected.
COAS meets clerics from all sects

Gen Bajwa has met clergy from all sects in the previous few days for their positive involvement in defeating this “ongoing sinister campaign”, said ISPR.

The statement further added that those responsible for the attacks in Parachinar will be brought to justice and the families of the victims will be compensated without any discrimination.

“Alhamdulillah, we have brought the security situation in country including Fata under control and shall not allow its regression under any cost,” said the army chief.

The Pakistan Army has called for a unified response to what it said was a "malicious" campaign by hostile intelligence agencies and anti-state elements to give a sectarian and ethnic colour to a recent string of terrorist incidents in the country that mainly targeted minority Shias.

"Having failed to divide us through terrorism, our enemy is now trying to target and fragment us along sectarian/ethnic lines which merits a unified national response," said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release on Wednesday.

The people of Pakistan need to be cognisant of the campaign, which is also "unwittingly" being spread on social media, said the statement, adding that the army is closely following the situation.

"For us every shaheed [martyred]/injured is equal, regardless of sect/ethnicity and indeed is a great loss," it quoted Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as saying.

"We all are Pakistanis and Muslims who fully respect the religious rights of our Pakistani minorities."

According to the ISPR, the army chief interacted with religious clergy of all sects over the last few days to seek their involvement in defeating the "campaign" to create sectarian tension.

The army iterated that those responsible for the bombings in Parachinar shall be brought to law and the victims will be compensated without any discrimination.

"Alhamdulillah, we have brought security situation in country including Fata under control and shall not allow its regression at any cost," said Gen Bajwa.

The army chief was to spend the second day of Eid in Parachinar, where at least 72 people died and 200 others were injured in twin blasts last Friday. However, his visit was postponed due to bad weather.

In the days leading up to Eid, the country saw a spate of terror attacks that left at least 90 people dead.

On Friday, besides the Parachinar bombings, at least 14 people including 10 policemen were killed in a blast targeting police in Quettathat was claimed by both the militant Islamic State group and the Jamaatul Ahrar, and in Karachi four policemen were killed in a drive-by shooting as they opened their fast at a roadside restaurant the same day.

Members of the Shia community in Parachinar, capital of Kurram Agency ─ a mainly Shia area in the tribal belt ─ had earlier held protests against the attack claimed by the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi al-Alami.

They said that they would end the sit-in after Gen Bajwa and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar came to negotiate with them.

Army is closely following the sectarian and ethnic colour being deliberately given to recent spate of incidents in the country by hostile intelligence agencies / sponsored anti state elements. Having failed to divide us through terrorism, our enemy is now trying to target and fragment us along sectarian / ethnic lines which merit a unified national response.
Ongoing malicious campaign of enemies of Pakistan which is also unwittingly being spread on social media is highly regrettable and we all need to be cognizant of it. "For us every Shaheed / injured is equal, regardless of sect / ethnicity and indeed is a great loss.”We all are Pakistanis and Muslims who fully respect the religious rights of our Pakistani minorities" COAS said.
COAS has interacted with religious clergy of all sects over the last few days for their positive involvement in defeating this ongoing sinister campaign. It is assured that those responsible for Parachinar incidents shall be brought to law and victims will be compensated without any discrimination. "Alhamdulillah, we have brought security situation in country including FATA under control and shall not allow its regression at any cost" COAS said.

Knowing is not enough operating against those elements is what is needed.

We know its Iran & India joint who are financing extremism against Pakistan. Afghanistan is the renting ground for both the countries. Even after all this US says Pakistan is this, Pakistan is that?? Clearly you know there is something seriously wrong.

Sir, when open borders are open & there are Afghan refugees crawling in our country. Then these terrorist activities financed by Iran, India & renting Afghanis will not end.

Parachinar is tragedy full compensation security and complete operation clean up is required all efforts should be done to protect lives and properties of residents of Khurram agency but it should also be contained in parachinar no one should be allowed to disrupt major cities life by sit ins why there is no implementation for section 144 in Islamabad why civil Forces so weak in containing situation.

Ch nisar still heavy disgraceful language is in use against Armed Forces of Pakistan why no action on facebook and tweets even after ispr statement it's govt duty to keep things under control why social media is independent any one can use it against Pakistan where is the plan policies and punishment against enemies of Pakistan on social media.

This wouldn't have been an issue if the Pakistan Modi League got off their behind and showed proper condolence to the incidents in Parachinar and Quetta.

Government incompetence is by far the largest thing fuelling extremist ideology. It also doesn't help when security agencies and other government officials want the Afghan border closed, and Nawaz just overrides anyway,

If Army officers can be involved in attack on GHQ who were later hanged by army then why Col.Umer in Parachinar cannot be an Indian agent ?

Element of hatred, racist mentality behind Parachinar incident. Decades of years ago Army eliminate Ya Ali (A.S) slogan from commandos.
