Won’t apologise or withdraw charges against Devyani: US

I think you guys are mistaking a strip search for a cavity search. the US admits to a strip search, but not a cavity search -- they're two different things. There are frisks/pat-downs (no clothes taken off), there are strip searches (most outer clothes taken off, underwear usually not taken off depending on circumstances), and there are full-body cavity searches (the disgusting stuff you're imagining).

You're just fantasizing sexual assaults in order to build up rage. I'm not FOR strip searches, but this is a little ludicrous. There's a lot of unfairness in these things, I know, I'm a non-white non-citizen living in America, so I've had my share of pat-downs. But it's not a goddamn porno

We are not happy, we regret for India. USA bombed China's embassy in Yogoslavia back 1998 killing three Chinese, not to mention arresting Indian councilor in this case. Now Indians should have known Zpbetter about 'India-USA' relationship.
I didn't mean this incident ... In long term perspective.
China should take advantage of this situation and settle the border dispute once for all. Giving aways few km of baron land to keep one birder clam forever isn't a big price.
If that is solved no GOI will took US relations seriously. Everything like old 90s
But it seems both Ind and China have made that an issue tooo ;) so just my wish ;)

So you are a diplomat too !!!
Nobody gives a hoot to what happen to common citizens while facing the law. Diplomat is a face of nation.
You should write your views to UN and tell them to change the norms of handling diplomats.

.
Wait !!! Isn't American/Western Source/Newspaper/Law Standard for the Indians especially on this forum...What happened to that keeness of Indians about Americans...

Washington: Is the US decision to arrest and strip search Indian diplomat Devyani Khobrgade on charges of visa fraud, sparking a major diplomatic row with what it calls an "incredibly important" partner, a case of classic American double standards?

It would appear so going by at least two recent cases relating to Saudi Arabian and Russian diplomats.

At Thursday's State Department press briefing, spokesperson Marie Harf had no clear answer to the difference in the treatment of Khobragade and "Saudi diplomats who allegedly committed even more egregious crimes."

According to the questioner, two Filipino women were rescued escaping the Saudi diplomatic military attaché's residence in a Washington suburb. But "no Saudi diplomats have been charged, none of them have been cavity-searched."

All that Harf could say in response was that she "was not aware of all the details of that case" and didn't "want to make a comparison about why something was or wasn't done.

"Each case is different, though," she suggested. "Obviously, we take any (such) allegation very seriously and we investigate them when they're brought to our attention."

But the case against the Russians really takes the cake particularly since it took place in the very borough Manhattan's India-born US attorney Preet Bharara, who has brazenly defended his actions against Khobragade as based on the principle of equality before law.

His office's "sole motivation in this case, as in all cases, is to uphold the rule of law, protect victims, and hold accountable anyone who breaks the law - no matter what their societal status and no matter how powerful, rich or connected they are," he said.

It took his office ten long years to make a case against 49 Russian diplomats and their spouses charged with scamming Medicaid, a government health care programme for low-income families, out of $1.5 million over a decade. All of them worked in New York either at the Russian mission to the UN, the Russian consulate or the Russian trade representation office when they committed the alleged fraud.

But Bharara could not lay his hands on any of them. For by the time he filed charges just a week before he chose to act against Khobragade, only 11 of them remained in the US. But none has been taken into custody as they all have diplomatic immunity.

Ten of them are diplomats working with the Russian mission to the UN and their spouses, and one is now stationed at the Russian embassy in Washington. But at the time of the charged offences, he was employed at the consulate in New York.

Harf Thursday suggested that Khobragade, who has been transferred to India's permanent mission to the UN, would not have "retroactive" immunity after her change of status from consular officer to diplomat. If so, how come, the Russian diplomat working in Washington is roaming free when the offence he is charged with took place when he worked at the Russian consulate in New York?

"Diplomacy should be about extending hands, not picking pockets in the host country," said Bharara at a press conference announcing the charges which have next to no chance of moving forward.

But Harf was more circumspect in saying they were still "reviewing the charges" and "the relationship is much bigger and deeper and broader and more complicated than that."

Like in Khobragade's case, Bharara's actions sparked outrage in Russia.

Rejecting the charges, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow had many claims against the behaviour of US diplomats in Moscow but had preferred not to bring them into the public sphere.

It has been two weeks since the charges were filed against the Russians. But to date Moscow has not waived their immunity nor has Washington asked them to leave!

I think US will back down. Not because it fears India, but it is courting India in a larger context.

Neither the Aryan Thunder God Indra in the Rig Vedic Time, nor the Aryan English man Robert Clive in the 18th Century backed down. They don't back down. Siraj miscalculated and so he had to pay a heavy price.

The foundations of the British empire in India were, it is said, laid by Robert Clive, known to his admirers as the "conqueror of India".

Manas: History and Politics, Robert Clive

What I understand is that English men are not Chinese.

US don't even lock eyes with India let along respecting India in away of common foe, US also don't respect either Russia or China but US will lock eyes with either Russia or China to see who will blink 1st because both Russia and China posted the greatest challenge to US on the world stage. India don't know her position in the world and used this incident to grand standing with the US and demand US to back down and apologize? India government drown on their own delusional as a world power status and forget where India standing in the world.

Just see the timing her involvement in the Adarsh scam is revealed. Is it a coincident or something else?

Whether she will now go to India to face homeland investigation or will she choose to stay in the US to face the US judiciary remains to be seen!

Whatever, CIA is now after her!

A defendant already indicted by US criminal court, she require to answer all charge to US judge and defend her case, no way she will be out of US Scot free without successful defend her innocent.

Your reply defers from @Developereo. your reply is like a troll and without any substance in the argument.

@Developereo Yes, and no. India definitely wants the charges to be dropped. But India will also fight the case at the same time. USA cannot drop the charges whether it is faulty or not. It will be decided by their court. Because now the interpretation of the labor clause has come in to question and it should be apply to all.

At the same time Dr. Devyani will return to India and the case will go on. If the court will interpret the law as per DA Preet Bharara then many countries will reduce their embassy staff including Pakistan and China also) @sincity . Because nobody can afford to pay their Salary rate. And then US will have to change the law through legislation.....

I think there's no point speculating any more; let's just wait and see what happens...

This is not CIA.
An Indian poster on this forum mentioned her Adarsh scam a few days ago.

A defendant already indicted by US criminal court, she require to answer all charge to US judge and defend her case, no way she will be out of US Scot free without successful defend her innocent.

State department can give her retroactive immunity and let her leave.

Then it will become an internal headache within the US and defuse the international crisis.

Indians are among people most afraid of losing their “face”。

Tit for tat is now the only cause of action for India。

Find an American on the street, accuse him or her of violating Indian law, prove such in a court of law and put the b@stard in jail。

He is just following the law. Where he was from is irrelevant. Lets just focus on the fact that the Indian vice consular broke the law and is now a felony suspect.

I feel sad that many Indians like you support another Indian violating the law in another country. Indians should feel ashamed of its own diplomatic wantonly violating the law of another country. Instead, most of you guys try to justify the crime. No wonder India is the way it is today.

Bullsh!t. The point of argument isn't the fact that she committed a crime or not, but the fact that despite her representation of her nation and the Indian people (who didn't commit the crime), the US still treated her in such a way. International diplomats are to be handled differently from ordinary citizens. What the United States did to her not only degrades and disrespects her, but also the country and people she represents.

She wasn't a diplomat...period. She was a CONSULAR Officer which is different from diplomat. She only had consular immunity. That's why INdian GOVT MOVED HER TO UN.

She was a vice consulate. She had no diplomatic immunity. Only the ambassador represent the nation, everyone else, whatever is the title, are just there to work. So US act within our law and jurisdiction. If she is found not guilty in our courts, she can then freely go home. Otherwise, she must serve her terms and pay her fine.

Also, the cops might frisk her. But that is standard booking process.

I don't know about consular immunity until a few days ago. :)

Indians are a cancer in this world. I've seen so many dirty illegal Indians in Shenzhen coming from Hong Kong and causing so much trouble.

The Chinese authorities must arrest these dirty illegal Indians and execute them. They will bring their rape culture, defecation culture and crime culture to China.

Because of the influx of Indians and Africans in Guangdong Province, the crime rate has skyrocketed. Africans are the worst, they are useless. Indians are not far behind.

I can see why the west colonised and tried to civilise Africans and Indians. Without the west, these two people would be behaving worse than they are right now.

The worst part is Africans and Indians have the highest breeding rate of any people, so they are increasing their offspring and ruining this world. They have zero population control and couples have 8-10 offspring. Makes me sick.
Damn, my childhood province is ruined. Why are cpc letting so many Africans and indians in???? Are they out of their mind? Why can't ordinary Chinese do anything about it?
