Won't allow anti-India activity by China: Sri Lanka

It is hilarious how hard certain Indian individuals try in its attempt to mislead the readers.
Misleading title to a statement which applies to both China and India.

.
the concerns are valid and I feel lankans are rightly balancing their relationship with india and china.
it is amusing to see how some fools are thinking that IN is being paranoid, after USN, the IN is the defacto power in the IOR.

.
China acts quietly though. They don't do things overly overtly and loudly.

Sri Lanka is one of a handful of countries where China & india will be lobbying and fighting for influence. Next day, Sri Lankans will surely make a statement thanking China for its support. Chinese are doing a lot of infrastructure projects in the island nation and in exchange Sri Lankans opened up an SEZ for Chinese investment if i'm not mistaken

.
^indeed, chinese have deeper pockets so they can go for bigger contracts. i'm all for greater economic cooperation between countries.
unlike our westerly neighbor, Indians can continue and develop trade ties while trying to resolve political issues.

even in 1990s we were exporting electricity to your country.....it is india which makes cross-border trade difficult and not cost-effective

and in fact india has always tried to harm Pakistan's commercial/trade interests even half-way across the globe :)

.
a bit more reading would help you abu. the talks about electricity didn't go through. and we are more than glad to buy and sell with pakistan, the MFN given to your country is a testament to that effect. Pakistan is still buying indian goods via saudi arabia even though its more expensive. so lets not talk about India making trade less cost-effective.

It is your govt and PA that makes trade ties a hostage to our political issues.

. .
indian MFN to Pakistan was a half-assed one only on thin, wrinkled hemp paper. So don't pull that line on me Mr. Abhishek.

as for exports of power, i believe it used to take place in late 80s earl 90s.......

perhaps you would prefer a china type FTA which results in the decimation of your local industries and a trade deficit of more than 5billion. suit yourself mate and continue buying smuggled indian products from KSA, I'm sure it does wonders to GOP's tax revenues.

you may want to check again, the electricity talks fell through because of disagreements on pricing structure. that is water under the bridge though. lets leave it at that.

.
that's capitalism for ya....we can by all means protect some local industries though protectionism isnt always the most favourable or efficient outcome

better to let the markets work...and besides, Chinese wages will be consistently rising as they slowly make the move from labour intensive to capital intensive goods --and unskilled to skilled labour requirement.

by the way, trade deficits arent necessarily bad, as long as they can be offset

Proximity, security and trade opportunities make Sri Lanka choose India over China any day. Even there was a proposal from Sri Lanka on formation of a free trade block with Southern states of India on the lines of EU

The way i would put it is , India makes a lot of noise to mask what needs to be kept guarded. (Artillery explosion to mask/suppress sniper fire if u get my drift). Acting Quietly make u a target for suspicion ...acting BIg and all over the place , avoids scrutiny.

Hey folks,first timer here.

When did Pakistan offer to export electricity to India?Any sources to back that claim up?Last time I heard India was offering to export electricity to Pakistan.Anyways,I don't think that India throws a spanner in the works as long as trade is concerned.

On the main issue,It's only natural that a country gets bothered if another nation tries to geographically encircle her.China is bothered by the fact that it's encircled by Russia and India(even though it clearly has better defenses).Pakistan gets bothered when India tries to encircle it through attempts at warming up with Afghanistan. It's an inevitable reaction.

PS#It's really refreshing to see nobody in the room is hurling abuses, just venting reasonable concerns. That's what made me sign up!

India will modernize Sri Lanka’s KKS port & Palali Airport.

India will provide Sri Lanka with a US$800 Million finance package to both projects.

KKS port – US$400 Million

Palali Airport - US$400 Million

Also another US$300 Million finance package from India to Sri Lanka currently discussed it will finance a highway project.

When next time our EAM visits India, he will visit with another two projects.

Excellent diplomacy by Sri Lanka
